he has done it for the sake of his and his families happiness and should be applauded for it -

yes supporting liverpool is important to people but it  isnt the most important thing in life - my family and g/f will always come first

fu.ck me mate football is a passion and it hurts sometimes but the good thing is theres always another game/season around the corner

dont take something you love out of your life because your partner, family, freinds dont undertsand it

just a question here an im not being sarky or nasty .an no way im i inferring some are better fans than others  when i ask this but do you live in Liverpool an do you go the match on a regular basis. Because it does make a big difference to your personal life if you do. And prioritys and all.

Just wait till you have kids then youll understand, Ive done it meself, My lad was playing in a cup final everyone was going exept me , i was off to see a different team play. noone was happy about it like, an maybe i shouldnt of gone , because he scored two, his team won the final an he got man of the match, everyone was dead happy in my house apart from me , We got beat an i had the hump

Interesting thread but I confess, I only read the first few posts to pick up the jist.
     My history started attending late 60's sporadically
  70's more frequent...mid 74 onwards every home game
   season ticket since 1980-81 and travelled nearly every away games till.......

  Life changing.....Hillsborough .....picked carefully which away games to attend...then fizzled to none by 1993....used marriage, kids and perhaps Souness! to stop travelling.

Only away games have been Europe and Cup finals...and a semi or two.....

Still had by season ticket..........and I felt uplifted after the Arsenal game.....value for money ...

It's been a good season and It all bodes well for the next....can't wait

Kindred spirits Nan ,my lad is a cracking little boxer ,and Ive missed a few bouts ,when  travelling with the Reds has taken priority .
My Daughter is 18 and just finishing her final exams in college ,before she moves on to University ,and she is totally untarnished by football, would'nt know a Winger from a Fly Half .
I cant believe how beautiful a young Lady she has become and I owe it all to the time and Love my Wife has bestowed upon her .
Thats how much the love of the game takes away people

I was at Anfield on Tuesday night for the Arsenal game, and I ran through the full gauntlet of emotions ,the game was memorable for the average armchair viewer ,but to me it sucked me dry ,  in one moment I would be overwhelmed by unbounded elation ,the next mentally exhausted by the return to reality .
I experienced to many highs and lows that night,  and it had a profound effect on my personality ,I walked away from that game drained and inconsolable ,and the effect my demeanor had on the people I love was profound ,but on this occasion my depression was apparent to me as well as my family and friends.
Football is just a game ,but its ran my life for so long now its hard to shake off ,but for the longevity of my relationships, I have decided with heavy heart to distance myself from attending Anfield in the future .
This decision was not made easily ,I have watched the Redmen since 77 ,so it was made with much deliberation, but the stability and happiness of my family has to take priority .
It is why I came to the conclusion no more travelling with the lads for a while ,but while my family have been informed of this decision ,I can't bring myself to tell the boys, such bravery eh !

So I  have a very good reason to be disgusted in myself today, because yesterday I turned down the opportunity to travel with the lads up to the KC Stadium .
I know it may not sound like a big deal to some ,but to me it clearly shows I lack the courage to tell the lads , and my subsequent  inability to tell the truth ,has led me to this eventual conclusion ,they simply would fail to see the importance of my revelation at this present time ,so I will lie until the truth dawns on them ,I know this may seem underhanded to some ,but it is my only course of action ,they will simply not be able to fathom the truth, such is their dependancy right now . 
Its not just my withdrawal from going to the matches ,its my rejection of my second family ,and the institution that travelling to games home and away instills in the bonds we have made .
These last few days have been pivotal ,and no less profound for  my respective future,and I seriously dont know if the allure of Anfield will entice me back ,but for now I am sticking to my guns and giving it a wide berth .
I would be interested to know other posters who have made the same decision, for more or less the same reasons .

I wouldn't be so hard on yourself RBG, it sounds like you are making the decisions for all the right reasons and it's hard being a slave to the game all the time. I get pretty angry with myself in that my mood at the weekend is MASSIVELY influenced by how the Redmen get on that day, who knows how bad it would be if i went the game more often than I do. And it's not like you can't go the game anytime you please (assuming you have enough mates who can sort you a ticket). You could always rent ya season ticket for the year and pick out a few away fixtures you fancy attending as i've got the feeling you won't be able to stay away permanently! As for ya mates, sure they'll give ya some grief the way lads do but you can bet it's only coz their experience is all the better for you being there and if they're any kind of mates they will understand despite the ribbing they give you!

Does he go to a boxing club in Liverpool theres some crackin ;ittle clubs there , A few years ago now a couple of my uncles were involved with all the kids boxing , Holy name in Fazac an the Rotunda, An i know a few of the l;ads who run the one in Netherley, Boxing being my other passion like

Get him off that commputer an get him back in the gym. or on the pitch, Nothing better for kids than being involved someway in a sport , Keeps them out of trouble an all when there getting older, My dad ran the football in Netherley for years, some of them right little scallies when they started , a couple of them even made it to pro. If hes got a talent though push him to use it,

Can't believe I missed this thread. It's an excellent post redbeergoggles and I know what you must be going through mate. I'm sure you'll be back at some point in the future.

I've seriously had to consider my own situation down the years but however hard I try and whatever excuses I try to come up with, I'd just never forgive myself if I decided to stop going. Even in these financial times it's like a drug to me, despite the fact that it costs me an absolute small fortune just to travel to home games these days. Away games are a treat for me over the past couple of seasons, and even two of those will be gone next season if Newcastle and Boro go down.

This season has only reinvigorated all LFC supporters win the title or not. Doubles over United and Chelsea, the 4-4 at the Bridge, the 4-4 against Arsenal, that magnificent night against Madrid, and of course the Hillsbrough anniversary.

I suppose I'm fortunate that I'm still so young and with the exception of my job, I have few responsibilities at the moment. I look forward to many more magnificent emotions and nights in the future.
