Report: Red Sox owner John Henry is injured on yacht

By Travis Andersen, Globe Staff

Red Sox owner John Henry suffered a minor injury on his yacht today in the Boston Harbor and was taken to a city hospital, according to media reports.

Boston EMS spokeswoman Jennifer Mehigan would only say that someone was injured on the Iroquois, a yacht owned by Henry, and paramedics met the victim, who was conscious and alert, at Rowes Wharf at about 6p.m. He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, Mehigan said.

A hospital spokeswoman referred all questions to the Red Sox press office. A Red Sox spokeswoman could not immediately be reached.

Red Sox President Larry Lucchino told WBZ-AM that Henry was injured in a minor incident on the boat. The station also reported that Henry walked off the boat with a neck brace on.

The news comes on a tumultuous day for the team. After a history-making, precipitous September slide from a nine-game lead in the wild card race, the team failed to make the playoffs this week. And the team announced today that it was parting ways with Terry Francona, the manager who led the team to two World Series victories.

I was just thinking I'd put the cause in front and offer to escort Mrs. Henry to the airport and on the plane, you can take over when we land Igor.
