Good deal for us.  Why in hell would they offer that much knowing that he has no work permit to play for us and is therefore useless.  I'm sure we'd have let him go for less than that

I think this deal is actually quite controversial in Greece because he was on loan to Olympiacos with Derbyshire, they won the double and then Olympiacos signed Derbyshire, but delayed on Leto, and then Leto go mad and came out to the press that he wanted to sign with Panathinaikos!

I guess Leto is the Greek League version of Carlos Tevez    Argie on loan at one club, then threatens to join cross-town arch-rival.

Take into account two years wages on top of what we paid for him and we've probably broke even.

Two years wasted for all concerned.   :(

i'm pretty sure we got a fee for his loan too, which would have covered his wages. Good deal for a player who was clearly not up to scratch.

loan deals are usually them paying the wages of the player... we don't necessarily get any fees but the wages he agreed with us were on them...

Fair comment Mags but wasn't he with us for well over a year before he went on loan ? .

Anyways , all yesterdays news now. Pity, when he first arrived I remember him showing pre season some decent touches and a lot of promise, unfortunately not fulfilled.

he was with us for half a season.

Then his visa was exposed or something and he couldn't play for us and just trained for the reserves

Then he went on loan for this past season, and has now been sold.

He did have a long hair, a good tan and an exotic name though. Imagine how unexcited everyone would have been if he was called Steve Lamb or something and we signed him from Walsall before selling him to Leicester for 3 million. As it was he was windswept, interesting and Argentinian so it all seems worthwhile.

About as much chance of making it at Liverpool as a Walsall first teamer, but at least it allowed a few people to dream for a bit. All in all nothing lost and probably nothing gained either. Inexpensive but ultimately pointless.
