Get a clue mate hes our best left sided midfielder. Aureilo maybe comes close but even then hes not the same.

Dont let his injury track record cloud your judgment of his ability.

Kewell maybe our best left sided player but who else is there? I dont mind Kewell staying but want to see a top class left winger brought in. Someone quick, someone who has flair, someone who can beat 1 or 2 players, someone with that extra bit of class.  Quresama is that guy!!

Oman didn't outsmart us, we just played so badly and they keep calling out the stretcher (6 times) and also they wouldn't give us space

Kewell will never regain the form he had at Leeds but he doesn't need to in order to make us a better side.  All he needs to do is stay injury free and find the form he had in the second half of the 05-06 season and in the World Cup.  Look, it's no coincidence that we managed 82 points that season with a fit Kewell doing well for us down the stretch.  He provided the right balance to midfield--something we sorely lacked last season--and he can offer us that again.  I do think we need to bring in another LM to challenge for the position but I've got faith that Harry can do the business if he stays fit.

As for Riise, he does a job at LM but he's not got enough in his locker to be our starting LM week in, week out.

I disagree, Riise runs at full backs and beats them and puts crosses in, can cut inside and cause problems for the defence, creates and scores goals and can help the left back if hes under pressure.

Riise never consistently beats fullbacks except for on the overlap, not 1-on-1. Don't get me wrong, Riise is a decent LM and would work against better opposition when we need to be defensive but he's not a winger. Against the lower teams (newly promoted, Fulham, Everton :p ) we need more of a threat going forwards to kill the opposition off. Kewell does that well, we just need him to stay fit!

It amazes me how many fans will ignore plausible reasons for lack of goals and appearances such as injury.

The fact is Harry Kewell is a top quality player when fit. Fitness is his key not performance consistency. People who say Kewell is now ineffective are quite frankly ignorant and cannot tell their arse from their elbow.

Riise is not a very good left back and that is his natural position.Playing him at LM wont win us anything.

never rated kewell that highly... out of 5 he's probably 3.5 IMO... his finishing is not like a striker's.... his playmaking ability is not like an attacking midfielder... his wingplay is not like a proper winger... decent skill and ball control and a good long distance shot... at leeds he runs at defenders and shoots from distance and scores... that's what he always did... now he's lost quite a bit of pace and that took out alot from him... he doesn't even have the trickiness and finishing ability of viduka... probably a very effective player at Leeds...now just above average... not top class like gerrard, alonso, carragher, reina... or even effective like finnan, riise... he's the kind of player that will lose his effectiveness once he gets older IMO...
