This competition for the starting place at LFC is heating up, and the only winner is Liverpool. No matter who claims the Number 1 spot, both keepers will have to fight to get there, and that means doing whatever it takes to be better than your competition. I think we will see a great struggle for the spot, and that means finally, Liverpool will have a great shot stopper in the team.
Dudek set for Reina fight
by Alex Livie
Jerzy Dudek claims he cannot envisage leaving Liverpool this summer, but Villarreal keeper Jose Reina has warned the Pole that he is heading to Anfield to claim the number one jersey.
Dudek put all the speculation about his future to one side and became the toast of Merseyside when helping Liverpool claim the UEFA Champions League with a penalty shoot-out victory over Milan.
The Polish shot-stopper is looking to forge a career at Anfield and recently urged manager Rafa Benitez to give him the chance to prove his quality, but it is believed the Spaniard is ready to bring Villarreal's Reina to Merseyside as his number one.
Dudek is aware of the speculation, but is focused on staying with The Reds.
"With this medal around my neck, I cannot imagine that I would have to leave this club," said the former Feyenoord man. "With that final, I fulfilled many people's expectations of me."
Reina has long been linked with a switch to Liverpool and the 22-year-old says he would not move to The Premiership just to sit on the bench.
"If I end up signing for Liverpool it is because they want me to play," declared Reina. "The question of starting places is for the boss.
"You have to earn your place. I'm going there to work and to win my place and to win over the fans."
