Every striker has a golden period when everything goes right for them,a true world class striker is the one who does it season after season. In the prem that would be Henry,V.Nistleroy and Shearer non of which r available so u either look abroad or take a chance and sign someone like AJ.I wouldnt be disapointed if we did sign him i think he could be a benifit to the team but i do think its down to the press clutching at straws. :grinning:  :grinning:

He needs to have a few seasons in the premier league first before we can talk about Aj but only 23 and in his first season in the premier 13 goals not bad :D . Top English goalscorer and only behind Henry in the goalscoring charts and Poland and England are looking at him Tord grip Sven's right hand man says if he keeps scoring England will look at him for next months friendly against Holland. He can also play for Poland with the realtions on his mother side so maybe a little word in the ear from Dudek :D . If Crystal palce go down we should try and sign  him because they won't be able to afford his wages in the championship but no way will Crystal palce let him go at this stage . Most Liverpool fans will remeber him for his penalty miss against us if Aj can score in a quite poor Crystal palce imagine wat he could do for us. He can play in the Champions league and scored more Penalties this season than Owen did last season

Lets no compare mellor and andy johnson. We want class not somebody who is slightly better than mellor. In my view, andy johnson is just enjoying a purple patch........  In fact, i guess pongolle in time will become better than johnson.

I rather we sign anelka instead...but money's the issue.

neither, but if i did have to take a player of palace`s hands it would be their winger routledge.
i`ve seen loads of flash in the pan strikers at all levels too.
bobby zamorra was scoring goals for fun for brighton then couldnt buy a goal for west ham.
in the prem.....marcus stewart, kevin phillips, kevin davies, michael ricketts, james beattie, peter davenport, gary birtles etc.

anelka to me looks like a lazy ****** when hes playing, he looks like he only plays well when he decides to, not when the manager wants him to perform, thats my opinon anyway

Marcus Stewart wasn't a flash in the pan. At his best he was a good player, good goalscorer and clever link man. Not a top class player, but certainly premiership quality.

James Beattie also isn't a flash in the pan. He's a very good player. Good in the box and links well with other players. He needs to improve his play with his back to goal, but in general he a very good premiership player.

As for Phillips you are surely taking the p!55? He's a superb player and always has been since he was in the first division. He scored 30 goals in his first premiership season, no flash in the pan is that good... he then scored 14 the season after in a shocking sunderland side and was practically a one man team. He has pace, outstanding awareness and is a superb finisher, he can also shoot from a distance with accuracy. Technically he's also very good and he uses his head well. He's a very good link player and i personally believe he should have been Fowlers replacement.

When looking at any new forward, Mellor has to be the current yardstick for comparison. Baros and Cisse when fit are assured of a slot, Pongolle is still developing and has potential. So, Mellor is the man in competition with a newcomer for a slot.
Personally, I have not seen enough of Johnson or Morientes to pass an opinion, but Anelka has more to his game than Mellor for me !!

Thats good then. We strive for second best. Why improve the first 11? We'll just improve the squad.

Bollox.

You go and replace your weakest player with a player who could potentially become your best. Thats how you build a squad. Not by messin around with players who won't play. Your current first 11 should be the ones you're lookin to replace.

Think about it ffs...

Baros
Cisse
Sinama
Luis Garcia
Mellor

Or?

Baros
Cisse
Sinama
Luis Garcia
Anelka?

I know what i'd rather have. Anelka is better than all our strikers. As is Morientes, both are massive improvements on what we have. Johnson simly improves the squad at best.

The others improve the first team.

I'd rather have Baros on the bench than Johnson.

I don't see AJ comming. First and foremost imo he's not good enough, good for Crystal Palace but not for LFC. Second, he's been in good form and he's English meaning that he will be overpriced. Palace value him more than  8 million pounds. Third, Palace won't sell AJ because he's the only reason they still have a chance of staying in the Premiership.
