Johnny carew

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I've been told that Roma won't sign Johnny Carew after he spent a season on loan with Roma, he will go back to Valencia but unfortunately Valencia don't want him and are ready to offload him this summer.......

I am asking you lads, what do you think of Johnny Carew, do you rate him highly or not?

Stan, i think he won't be adding value into our team at all...In the mould of Big Dunc, the 'pump ball to the box & i'll head em' type, Carew will be more a liability than an asset...Not much of a ball player too, just like another big burly fella the Czech monster Koller...Lacking in the ball control dept... I'm not a fan of Cisse but I'll pick the Frenchman over Carew any day.... :)

I am not a fan of carew either although he would be a massive improvement on heskey.
If we are looking for a big man up front Morientes is the man and he has alot of skill for a big guy which is rare to find.
Madrid dont want him and I doubt monaco can afford him so he is up for grabs.
Smith to Shankly:My thigh is a bit sore, but I think I could play.
Shankly to Fagan:Tell him,Joe.He has got no chance of playing.
Smith to Fagan:Tell him to sod off.It is not his leg,it's mine.
Shankly to Smith:Oh no son.You are wrong, son. It is not your leg.
It is Liverpool Football Club's leg.

Do you people bother to watch a player before you comment on them? Carew is excellent, physically very strong and imposing, like Emile, but Carew knows how to and does use this to his advantage. also Maguire you said he was in the Big Dunc mould, WRONG, he is technicaly excellent, and has superb touch and vision, despite being tall.

Only one problem is that he had some medial ligament damage around two years ago and has never fully recovered. Hence the reason Fulham turned him down last year. He could do it in the Premeirship, however the injury makes me say NO.

Leon, how much do you think Carew has improved?  I remember seeing him when he was 17/18 and he was useless with the ball at his feet.  I've seen him a fair bit since then on the telly and he still doesn't look the best.  I'll admit that he's a good player, but not the sort that we should be looking to bring in, i don't think he would add much more than Heskey already does.  Having said that there are a few big foreign clubs who really rate Heskey so what does that say? :p

Simple answer is GOEALS coley. thats what you would get from Carew that Emile doesnt give you.

GOALS the most important thing in a strikers reportoire.

He started 12 games, made four other appearences as sub and scored seven goals.

Emile has started twenty odd games and made around ten sub apps and scored five.

Leon, i agree, he's definitely better than Heskey in terms of technical ability...It's hard to find strikers who are far worse than Heskey nowadays...Nevertheless, it's too much of a risk for us to get him...For once, we really should be getting an established 25-goals a season striker....
