Johan Cruyff - New DOF?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby parchpea » Fri Apr 13, 2012 1:39 pm

What Cruyff would bring to the table is 'star billing' and perhaps help us
attract better footballers to the club simply because hes on board.

Dalglish is a big deal here but Cruyff is simply on another level in those
terms.

From that perspective he could be very useful to us.

At this point we could do with some fresh input  :;):  but I understand the potential for problems.

Be a shock to me if this came off though but an interesting discussion.

If it did happen you would have to hope it would be with everyone on board with it
and I am not for owners just imposing things and asking people to make it work as
usually it doesnt.

If not then those that dont like will have to leave simple as that.

cryuff wouldn't have the time to commit to a club like us. he's involved with about four or five other clubs around the world and also has his university to worry about.

The thought of Cruyff becomg director of football leaves me salivating.

It would be the end of average British policy, and hello to quality.

Please let this be true.

Dunno about this. I take on board what other members have said on this, but the man would bring quality and class to a post that's become part of modern football. As I see it he will enhance our buying power and will attract players in who would otherwise be reluctant to come here. I am thinking about the Eden Hazards of this world here.

On the other hand there may be clashes with Kenny. The only way we can find out if it will work is to try it.

I've had this quote on my sig for ages;

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-n ... n-my-spine

Dutch legend Johan Cruyff has praised Liverpool to the heights and added he was personally moved by the Reds supporters in Istanbul and the rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone sent shivers down his spine. Cruyff says the Liverpool supporters are special and the greatest in the world and were the 12th man to lift their team to a wonderful victory.

Cruyff said: "There's not one club in Europe with an anthem like You'll Never Walk Alone. There's not one club in the world so united with the fans. I sat there watching the Liverpool fans and they sent shivers down my spine. A mass of 40,000 people became one force behind their team."

:bowdown

My all time footballing hero. A maestro, the creator of the modern Barca cantera and the architect behind the football Barca play today.

We would see a revolving door... cr'ap going out.. quality coming in.

Oh please let this be true.

Thats not necessarily a bad thing as we clearly need some new ideas.

we need idea`s but we dont need civil war behind the scene`s.
saying that i am totally against DoF`s but if the yanks are absolutely adamant that the club is going to have one at least lets go for a football visionary like cruyff.

saying that cruyff is an interesting shout, he`s opinionated and arrogant but he was also the best european footballer thats ever lived.
it was cruyff who took the `total football` philosophy to barcelona, he was the architect,  he set the whole club up to play that way, everyone who has followed in the dutchmans steps at the nou camp has been reading from his blueprint.
lets face it that style of footy is the way forward, in the 70`s and 80`s teams could negate that style of play by getting stuck into them and kicking them off the park but these days footy is practically a non contact sport, we`ve just got to accept that the sport isnt a physical game anymore, cruyff`s vision of how the game should be played dovetails with the changes in the rules of the game.
cruyff and kenny actually have a similar philosophy on how the game should be played, kenny`s late 80`s team is up there with the best of them and imo would have played cruyff`s european cup winning barcelona team of the late 80`s off the park if it hadnt been for the ban so their shouldnt be any clashes over the style of footy. there might be clashes because you have two huge ego`s who were great players and i mean great players in their day but at least they`ll agree on the way forward in terms of style.
cruyff being at the club will help us bring talented players to the club too, as a DoF he will be meeting potential transfer targets and lets face it a f**king legend up there with the pele`s and maradona`s working for a historic club like liverpool is going to impress players.
i dont want a DoF, but if we are to have one at least lets have a footballing visionary and not some mathmatician who`s convinced 30 crosses, 40 headers and 12 tackles in the opposition third wins you games.

for those who never saw the dutch master play - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YU-k-Ots3iY&feature=related

Spot on, the reason I want Cruyff is his football vision, the work he has done with Barca and Ajax were remarkable! If he does apply his philosophy to our club in 4 or 5 years we will be unbeatable. I don't care if he has an ego problem, I only care about the football

Lots of conclusions jumped to once again.

Cruyff coming into the club could and possibly would have a negative effect. You want a DoF who doesn't want to be a manager , he shouldn't have one single say on tactics etc - Cruyff is known to be very forceful and meddlesome and we would see in fighting very quickly.

There should be no one bigger at the club than the manager - you shouldn't hear anything about the DoF , he should do his job supporting the manager quietly and effectively - there is no chance we would see that from Cruyff.

Outstanding player and done so very good stuff as a manager in the 80's and 90's . Far too big an ego to work alongside a manager.

Thanks but no thanks.

Cruyff isn't bigger to Liverpool than Kenny is.
