also i'd like to hear of what you think of these players: hargreaves and salihamidzic (munich),melbranque, dawson(i think his not good enough),chivu(best in the world...soon i think)(ajax),woodgate(class i think),ibrahimovic and kezman (ajax and psv).

Van Der Vaart looks a class act and potential world class player, however he is not playing centre mid in a 4-4-2 formationas you make out.

Van Der Meyde i have seen a little bit of but not much, he looks decent but not enough to set the premiership alight, i've seen more of Pennant and would rather see him signed.

Hargreaves.... good player, good box to box midfielder full of energy. Good tackler, works hard and very fit, good athlete also. Not at all what we need though, Gerrard is all these and more, we need someone who's strengths are Gerrards weaknesses.

Salihamidizc... to old, not good enough. No more than a squad player at Bayern. Never seen loads of him never really seen anything but a touch of pace from him.

Malbranque. Good hard working industrious creative midfielder, exactly the sort of player we are looking for to partner Gerrard, Personally i'd preffere Cole but i'd be more than Happy with Malbranque.

Dawson, potentially a class but a long way off at the minute. Will be a long term replacement for big Sami i think.

Chivu... never seen him i don't think and if i have he hasn't stood out.

Woodgate, i've been saying this one myself for ages. Top class, would love him here at Liverpool. Him and Sami would be awsome. He's EXACTLY what we need and can still improve. He's got it all but we won't get him.

Kezman, no. Not good enough. Similar to Owen but nowhere near as good.

Ibrahimovic.... Skillfull panzie who's got a bit of upper body strength which he never uses. Bad attitude, not good enough.

I don't trust your judgement, especially after you saying you think Diouf can become world class. Diouf if he was emplayed as a forward imo can become a good player but nothing truely special. He'd have his moments but he wouldn't get you masses of goals. He would never surpass 15 or 16, he would get one or two assists but i don't think he's brilliant by any stretch of the immagination.

Van der Vaart is not really centre midfielder, so he's more attacking midfield player.

So, Stu..what kind of player do we need in midfield, so we need a centre midfielder, who do you would like to sign?

As i've said time and time again. Joe Cole.

He has superb vision, good skill, good passer, two footed and has excellent flair and unpredictability.

He also offers leadership and work rate. He tracks back and is a premiership player. All he lacks in his developement is playing consistently along side great players every week in his preffered position. He's shown he can play and get the better of players (Vieira while Cole played for West Ham).

He'd get that hear playing with Kewell, Gerrard, Cisse, Owen and Hyypia.

He'd be ideal as all his strengths are top class and they all compliment Gerrards weaknesses.

Sorry about that to ask you earlier, mate.

Joe Cole would be perfect for Liverpool side and that would be excellent signing too.

i didnt mean world class (i coudnt think of a better word) more like twice as goosd as he is now.

vandervaart is way,way better than cole who i think is a very good player.

stan you say that van der vaart is an attacking midfield player thats what we need....right.

We need a 4-4-2 CENTRAL midfielder with attacking qualities.

Scholes, Cole, Dunn, Murphy, Cheyrou, Jenas (maybe), Svensson, Malbranque, Izzet... someone of that mould.

Cole would be ideal and affordable aswell as realistic.

van Der Vaart will be wanted by the massive clubs and will probably go to one of them should he leave Ajax.

I'm on about that style of player.

Izzet wouldn't be that bad actually considering he's on a free. I'd probably take a gamble myself.

Dunn would have been a good player, hardly played this second half of the season though. A player i like to watch though. Similar to Cole.

Svensson is a good creative midfielder with a good brain but no better than Murphy.

I was simply reffering to a type of player, not the quality needed.

I think most of us agree we need a creative player in the mould of those described - Although, be careful there Stu - You said Izzet! It's not even worth dreaming about Van de Vaart because unless he was a closet Liverpol fan as a kid we got no chance of signing the lad.
I've always liked Cole but Malbranque would be my 1st choice because he is closer to be the finished article and that is what we need (not potential) We may move in for Cole but i have a feeling Houllier would try and play him in several roles as apposed to in the middle with Stevie. A lot will hinge on Hamman. I don't know what Houllier will do. If he decides we are to play on the counter then Hamman is crucial. A more attacking approach would see Hamman on the bench for many of the home games. Hamman is one of my favourite players but i would be happy to see him go if it meant a creative player getting the nod next to Gerrard on a regular basis.

The way i see it in terms of transfer targets there are 3 categories when you consider possible LFC players.

1st Class - World Class top quality players who attract attention by most if not all the top clubs in Europe  Examples would be  Henry,Owen, Raul, Scholes,Ziadane, Beckham, Ronaldo etc.... these players are the best of the best and wanted by petty much every club

2nd Class - Up and coming recent top performers such as Lampard, Van De Varrt, Drogba, Saviola, Cole,  Ronaldinhio etc....

3rd Class - Team or squad players who can make an impact if the club they move to is the right cklub at the right time .... Players like Izzet, Smith, Gallas,

The thing is LFC will probabbly invest in a player from EACH of these categories and bear in mind the transfer window opens in August ? Is that right Or have I got that wrong ?

For me if we take 1 from each category (And I'm not meaning JUST the players mentioned ) then its vital we choose carefully, all too often we have bought flavour of the season type players without thinking about their suitability in the Liverpool TEAM .

My personal choices would be KEE Owen from the 1st class, Lampard from the 2nd and either Izzet or Smith from the 3rd :D
