Is liverpool f.c cursed? - I will put forward the proposition that

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Someone many years ago put a curse on Liverpool f.c to stop them winning more league titles

I believe this because sooo many players have come to liverpool with huge repuations and as soon as they put on the red shirt they flattered to decieve

Lets take it back to the houllier days

phil babb - best defender in the world cup, as soon as he pulled on the red jersey he became error prone

Nick barmby - once a great england internation, terrible for us

Christian zeige - same as

chris kirkland - great promise but plays like a clown for us, as soon as he joins wigan he suddenly finds his form again

el hadj diouf - 10 million, terrible for us, is a much better player for bolton, coincidence i think not

Who can forget le gems pongolle and le tallec, when they arrived they were supposed to be the best players in the world in a few years, since then neither has set the world alite

also see

karl heinz reidle, david james, dybril cisse

ok now some benitez signings..

reina - in spain he was known as mr reliable, mr steady and non flappable, all of a sudden he has become david james

Fernando morientes - poor for us as soon as he joins valencia he becomes good again

Craig bellamy - brilliant last season, joins us and struggles

alonso - came here with such a pedigree, real madrid rated him as the midfielder they should have signed, hasnt improved since joining

Zenden - had a great season for middelsboro joins us and becomes a joke

also see scott carson, harry kewell, mark gonzalez (all have come here and not upped their game)

my conclusion is liverpool f.c is cursed

of course there will always be ones who break the curse, but the cycle has to many examples to be wrong, the cycle of good player joins us then becomes average and doesnt improve

ooohh a curse!! Maybe Rick Parry is actually an alien or Steven Gerrard is actually a robot from the future.

How will we ever know? :O

Thought provoking post Mr Hobo.

I dont think Liverpool are cursed but I think this site may be. We seem to have a recurring ghost named Oasis that keeps coming back haunting us with his strange posts. Have you ever written anything positive about Liverpool ? Your prediction for the reading game 1 -1, your prediction for the Villa game 0-1. Your posts demanding Rafa out etc etc.

Why not haunt another site... you would be very popular on a Manc or  Everton site, you would even get people who agreed with you there!

So are other teams cursed aswel?

the scum have signed the following in recent years:
Veron
Forlan
MaddsTimm
Bellion
Kleberson
Djemba
Blanc
Ricardo
Tiebi
Barthez
Bosnich
Goram
Henning Berg
Jesper Blomqvist

the list does go on, but the point is everyone makes errors in the transfer market.

You talk about scott carson and mark gonzalez not upping their game... but just how many first team games have they had to do this?

You may be right mate, Oasis may have been a WUM at the end but he did make some good posts before that.

Here's some food for thought, Hobo. Has it never crossed your mind that some of the players you've listed were never good enough to play for Liverpool football club? Has it never crossed your mind that perhaps some/most/all of the players you've listed couldn't live up to the high expectation which is demanded at this club? Did you not hear Danny Murphy say "The only way a player goes after leaving Liverpool is down"?!?!

in their respective countries forlan, Tiebi, Blomqvist Ricardo have just as big a repuation as barmby, babb, Zenden and zeige

And out of your list moro and alonso are the only ones with a 'big' reputation. Diouf didnt have one - he had a good world cup, that was it - no other clubs were after him.

i doubt if anyone outside the prem had ever heard of scott carson before we bought him.... so why are you taking about big reputations now?

you keep swaying away from the point

fact is we are no closer to winning the title than we were under roy evans.........

too many good players come to us then walk out the door under the tag "failed"

Hobo, Ziege and Riedle came to us too late and near the back end of their careers, I would hardly call Riedle a flop though.
Since when were Le Tallec and Sinama-Pomgolle supposed to be the "best in the world"? I never heard that said about them.... As previously mentioned, all clubs make transfer mistakes, even Chelski.... you can't really call Duff a success or they wouldn't have gotten rid so quick, has Wright-Philips set the world alight? I think not..... Oh, and don't forget probably the worst signing by any club in the Prem in the last five years.... Winston Bogarde! 40k a week for 3 years and he played for them 8 times......!
