Is it time? - Internationals

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby yckatbjywtbiastkamb » Mon Sep 11, 2006 11:01 pm

i`ve been reading steven gerrards book and he loves playing for england.
he says the buzz in the dressing room before a big england game is second to none.
he obviously loves liverpool but i get the impression gerrard for one would be well :censored: off if liverpool told him he couldnt play in some internationals. i think he gets a bit of a buzz from the fact he`s surrounded by top players who are all from his country, on the same wavelength in terms of sense of humour and culture and have the same up and at em philosophy.

i personally think internationals are sh*t - at least when compared to following lfc... and i get the impression that most people on here agree.

i think it's safe to say internationals are needed to please those supporters of teams such as everton, pontefract united and morcambe beach who hav no hope of any success or happiness at club level.
we've only won it 5 times

i agree myself mate, the internationals and the early kick off`s have ruined the start of the season and turned it into a staccato stop / start affair.
it just doesnt seem like the season has got going yet to me.

That's a good idea, but wouldn't work.
When would the lower class teams play? They would have to play ten games each PRIOR to a 14 month qualifying campaign. It couldn't be done. Imagine if Wales qualified to play with "the big boys"? How many times would we be losing Bellamy for international duty?

Many, assuming he was selected.

But it's simply a consequence of a larger Europe.

And there will always be a conflict between club and country, especially if you have one exceptional player playing for a weak national team.

It's either this new system or the present one.

Neither is perfect, but short of excluding the smaller weaker nations, they are the most realistic alternatives.

Unless a better system is proposed.

Well it's obvious that most people (if not all) who have posted in this thread agree that Internationals are a pain in the posterior, and there should be a limit to the amount of games per year at the very least.

At the end of the day, England are trying to qualify for the EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. Why are we obliged to play teams that are no more in Europe than f*cking Canada? Isreal? Get f*cked off.

The same goes for Russia and all of it's offspring - how in God's name are they European countries, when about 9/10ths of their landmasses lie in Asia? I know that they are classed as European politically, but geographcally it is b*llocks to even suggest it.

What I would propose is pretty similar to Manhattan's ideas - cut the useless feckers out.

Moldova? A country with a population of 4.6m? Are you serious?

How about Andorra? A country with a total landmass of 468 sq km. That's about as big as the average pair of shoes. A population of 70k. That is less than f*cking Scunthorpe, for crying out loud.

The biggest p*ss-take of all is that every b*starding year, UEFA churn out even MORE teams to get a*se-whipped 88-0. WHen will it end? Will Crackney Bay become a Principality and send out a team consisting of 7 OAP's, 3 chickens and a dog called Ernie?

Which brings me nicely to my next point of contention: San Marino.

23 1/2 square miles. That is how big THIS "Country" is. WIth a population of 28,117, it is smaller in size than a man-size box of tissues.

The entire state is smaller than most towns. Grimsby has more than 3 times the population. And Grimsby is a f*cking PORT. Most of it is water.

Surely UEFA can see the idiocy of it all?  :no

watching england is turgid, mainly because the blazer boys at the fa are a bunch of clueless kunts who wouldn't know a decent manager if he came up and hit them in the face.

also, international friendlies should be abolished if you ask me.

Sorry guys . I can't see the reasoning behind most of you not following your country or being behind it.

I do agree that there are alot of :censored: international fixtures that are played against smaller nations and something has to be done about that. But to say that you don't like watching your country play  is unpatriotic. Why is it then that England had the most travelling supporters than any nation in the world cup and always have been the best supported  team.

Why . answer because you strive to become the best. I think saying International football is sh it is narrow minded. And if it is so sh it then why has England won only one major trophy?

What is just Liverpool supporters that don't care about England?

I think that if  you asked any Brazillian ,would he rather play for his country or club. I know what he would say.

Yes you are probably thinking this is :censored: as the club pays the wages and why should the club suffer. right?
well if Liverpool has such a problem with it then i suggest they don't buy players who are in international squads. Which is bloody ridiculous. There would be no Liverpool.

Players love to play for the club becasue of it's rich tradition and ability to win trophies. International football will always be there and Liverpool have to cope with the fact that because the aquad will always be talented then respective FA's will pick those players to represent their countries.

Anyway the club's current form has nothing to do with international football.

Good point there mate, I can see both sides of the coin. Especially Liverpools  :D The friendlies and certain other games couldnt come at a worse time, granted. But Mourinhio was saying this before the season started. And most fans on here said we're all in the same boat, get on with it. Now as we've dropped points and lost, out comes the old ' have a go at the international crew'.

I dont know if its just this forum and certain members, but its seems to be 'cool' to turn around and say " I hate watching England play"
As frustrating, and sometimes boring as it is to watch them play, I'll still watch & support them. I didnt see as much negativity towards Houllier & and his team in the treble season when playing 'backs to the wall, long ball stuff'.

I Saw an interview with old Sepp blatter, it seemed he was just as interested in having more countries play football than are in the UN. Roughly 219 countries play football and are part of Uefa. 197 or something like that are part of the UN, this sounded like his achievement, the blokes a pillock.

I don't hate watching England play, I just find I can't connect with a team full of scumbags.

I love Liverpool FC, and with that comes a hate for all things Manc, Bitter and Chav.

Surely it is hypocritical to scream blue murder at nobheads such as Gary b*stard Neville one week, then support the fecker the next?

Well of the current Engand squads, I hate the following tw*ts:

Andy "Arse Jockey" Johnson,
Fat Frank b*stard Lampard,
Gary Parrot-nose Neville,
Phil Bus-in-the-face Neville,
John Homosexual hairstyle Terry,
Rio de Je w*nker Ferdinand,
Wes Brown-tongued McClaren as there's no way he's International class,
Joe Diving faggott Cole,
Spooney,
Ashley "Takes it up the sh*tter" Cole,
Kieran "Sucks off the boss to get a game" Richardson, and any other scum/bitter/chav/w*nker players that ever get called up.

I want England to win the games they play, but I'd rather have Pedigree Chum smeared all over my genitals as someone shouts "Suppertime Fido", than cheer those b*stards.

Not for me, thankyou very much.

I love watching my country to be honest but I agree with Manhattens plan, it makes a lot of sense and Europe is a bigger place now.  Maybe these could start earlier, during the world cup or european championship, like a mini tournament so to speak.  Plus we might eeven have the chance of qualifying for something :D

I have reasons to not like Giggs but he choose to play for Wales because he is Welsh.  Born in Wales and moved up North with his Dads job, he has family in Cardiff and considers it his first home.  Its like saying that Gerrard should have smelled the coffee and played for France.

There should be a lot more co-operation between club and country especially with increased fixtures for the top players at the top clubs and countries.  Been thinking how but with so many countries involved and leagues starting at different times its a nightmare to please everyone
