is it just me or is it becoming harder and harder to win at home this season? looking at it, the majority of teams are better away from home. as a season ticket holder it's almost painful to watch us at home at the moment. we've dropped points galore but have been fortunate that the other teams have dropped points on the same day.

I think thats the way it should always be, not one team is so superior to everyone else that every start of the season isn't a clean bet between 1 or 2 teams.  It's 4 right now, but if things keep up maybe 5 or 6 in the near future.

Well it's a poor Premiership this season that's the first thing. I think that is bourne out by the fact that everyone is beating each other, all the top teams are dropping points left right and centre so the margins between the various "divisions within divisions" is much smaller.

Our own Home form is absolutely terrible of course, and it's a real problem. I'm going off memory here, but we beat Man Utd which was obviously a fantastic result, we beat Pompey by virtue of Bouba Diop deciding to handle it inexplicably, we beat Middlesboro after being behind with two goals after normal time had ended and we've drawn is it six, feck knows.

I don't personally think it's as a result of teams being better organised Away from Home, or better defensively. I think it's simply as a result of us not playing playing well enough, or with enough ambition, or latterly through not having a striker on the pitch (that generally helps in my experience). When you look at the other challengers, Man Utd have in the main been fairly efficient at Home. I know I keep saying this, but it really is worth remembering that they have played us, Arsenal and Chelsea all away in the first half of the season. they've also played all of last seasons top 10 away with the exception of West Ham.

We remain top, but we've had a very easy run of games this last month or so and had a great chance to put a buffer in, as well as put the other teams under pressure. That we didn't isn't because "parking the bus" is a new phenomenon (just a new way of putting it), it's because of our own failings.

How is this poor though?  I always found leagues with no free games and unexpected results (for any team) was always more fun than a predictable league.  As a result your team might hurt a bit in the process, but its better then the same old free wins for everyone that plays a team below <insert table position here>

I was thinking the same. chelsea and everton and Arsenal have been better away from home than at home this season along with ourselves. i am actually looking forward to away games more so than home.

It's not harder to win at home any more. We (and Chelsea) are just playing poorley at home that's all.

Sorry mate I don't mean "poor" in terms of lack of excitement, it's the most unpredictable and exciting Premiership ever in all probability. No I mean "poor" in terms of quality. There's normally a couple of really outstanding teams in there, and so far there hasn't been.

Can I also just point out here and now that it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever if you win it, whether it was poor or exceptional, if you win it you are the Champions and everyone else can go feck themselves. Same as the final points total, matters not a sh!te as long as you win it.

2nd half of the season will be very interesting. i feel chelsea and mancs will up the tempo. Hopefully we will aswell with a fit again torres. This is a very interesting season!!

Once Torres is fit and firing on all cylinders there isnt any reason why we cannot carry on pushing on.

There are a lot of teams mentally in a relegation battle before xmas and I think its great as the games are a lot tougher.

Exactomundo Leon. If you get a horse race and they all finish in a heap, you can be fairly sure that none of 'ems gonna win the derby. If there's not a lot between all the teams, there are two possible reasons.

Either, ALL the teams have improved, or the better teams have come back to the pack a bit. My feeling is it's the latter. As I said on another thread, if the Arsenal invincible team of four seasons ago was in it, or Chelsea's Mourinho back to back Premiership winners were in it, or a Manc team of a better vintage, it'd be all over by now such has been the mistakes the top three have made.

Just to repeat what I also said over there, it makes absolutely no difference to the Premiership champions how good a vintage the league was that year. It makes no difference whatsoever if you win it with 74 points or 87. If you win it, you win it, simple as that and the achievement is no less.

*As a footnote, it wouldn't take a fantastically good team to roll over the English clubs in Europe this season IMHO. If Barcelona are half the team they were two or three seasons ago they'd be plenty good enough I should think.
