In january window - Where do we strengthen?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

No sure about Warnock, I mean hes an ok player but nothing more. We need to be doing better than this in the market if we are serious about pushing on. Its a step back. NESV need to start showing us some money and if Comolli really has a role cough up the cash for players they hired him to find. Its ok organising meetings days ahead and waiting to hire a CEO but action is required now and they need to get the show on the road with the transfer clock ticking down.

Warnock had a good season last year and got into the England squad.. but he is not much of an improvement of what we already have! he is certainly not as good as Aurelio.

We have to stop falling into the same trap of panic buying mediocre players who make little or no difference to the squad - thats what got us into this mess. no more quick fixes. I would rather see the money (if any) available spent on ONE quality player than 5 average ones.

If it's  on loan i.e we are not paying out any cash for him i think it's a good move.
Konchesky has been a liability Fabio is unlikely to stay fit.
Warnock is fairly solid , knows his job and he is a Liverpool boy and i think this is key.
We need players who will show fight and passion which will rub off on the other players, Carragher does it Gerrard does it and if Warnock is there he will do it.
He's not a mecernary and will spill blood for Liverpool, watching some of the games this season its a quality we have been lacking!

We have to remember we can only buy what is available and i'm not sure how many quality left backs there are available at the moment.

Thats true, but warnock is certainly not quality. He is barely better than konshitsky, and certainly not as good as Aurelio can be (if he could stay fit for more than 5 minutes). I dont care if he has passion he is not what we need if we are going to try to get back to the top. Warnock would be ok as a squad player, but we have young players capable of filling that role.

After the pathetically soft middle as seen both in the Blackpool and now Everton matches, the top priorities have to be a central defender and a second(primary?) striker.

That's why i said if it was a loan to keep us going for the rest of the season.
I'm sure that will give Comolli and KK enough time to  find the next permanent LB.

We certainly do need to bide our time but at the same time we're in a situation where we really need some new additions if we want to make Europe next season! I'm worried that we won't actually get time to make any signings in January. I wouldn't mind waiting until the summer but we really need at least one fresh face to inspire the current team and show we mean business. We're half through January already! I hope Comolli is doing his best anyway, the main word here is quality or to put it more simply not sh!t .

Since he is barely better than what we got why bother? Its january so yes there is limited players available but surely we can find one or two players that would be a genuine benefit to the team. Getting warnock on loan sounds to me like our ambition is to be a decent midtable club. We really need some inspiration for the rest of the season. A signing that tells the players and the fans that the club has higher ambitions than that.

I dont expect too see too much before the summer, but it would be good to get a sign of our owners ambitions for the club.

I wouldn't go for Warnock, either. He's better than Konchesky and Insua but not Aurelio and so he would only very marginally improve our squad depth. If we have the opportunity to spend decent money, we should go for a player of higher calibre and that applies to every position - no more settling for Carlton Coles or even Charlie Adams. We shouldn't have to settle for players of such a calibre when we have owners whose plans for the club depend on us re-establishing ourselves in the top four in the not-too-distant future. Just how many of your Llorentes, David Luizs and Eden Hazards would be willing to join a club that's been on the decline is less certain. It may be that we have to find a player, like Van der Vaart, who was on the fringes of a great squad but was prepared to move to for regular first team football. We can't offer CL football but we can offer the prospect of it in the near future, and a whole lot more besides.

Just cause a guys called Carlos doesn't mean he's any better than say Charlie. Adams has been fabulous this season, bossed our games home and away, if his name was Carlos adamo you would been raving about him "let's get the £20mill" etc. No, it's Charles, therefore only £6 mil is required, it's an absolute no brainer. Kenny don't do a gascoigne, sign him, now.

It's nowt to do with his name. I think we could do a lot better that is all.

Just to prove it. I wouldn't go for that Luis Suarez chap who it is suggested we are looking at. I think the figures being bandied around for him are ludicrous. I would take ADAM Johnson, though, and possibly even GARY Cahill (I am less sure about him, though). If there was a player called NEIL....and he looked capable of sufficiently improving our squad, I'd take him as well.

not if it's that neil tho :D

I like Hangeland tbh, I think he could add a bit of precence at the back for us. Johnson would be an excellent shout as well.

I said the same about Suarez though, I'm sure we're linked with £18m but back in the summer it was £35m, has something went on with him for it to be lowered so much. Was biting players and a 10 game ban the nail in his coffin?

last season he got 49 in 48 though! Yep I know, in the DUTCH league  :D
