Ian wright tells swp: you should have been a red - Swp may yet wear the famous red shirt

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Arsenal legend Ian Wright was at yesterday's match with his son Shaun Wright-Phillips (ED: ok he's adopted but it's his dad, right!).

They took in the match to see Bradley Wright-Phillips given a run out by City boss Stuart Pearce.

(By the way there's also another one, Brett Wright-Phillips is also on the books at City).

Anyway, after the match, Ian Wright laughed and said: "I told you, you should have come here, not Chelsea!"

The comments were picked up by the local and national media but have obviously been played down as just a bit of a laugh.

Funny thing is, Liverpool are still keen on Shaun and come the summer, if the youngster is still fed up at Chelsea, he could find himself at Anfield finances permitting.

Stranger things have happened...

Now im not for on minute suggesting that he is Rafas target but we all know that Rafa wants a quality RM. And I feel that a combination of jusdging by some of Rafas comments about waiting till the summer to find better players and all the talk of new shirt sponsosrs and investment, could culminate together to finance some big moves for us. Im sure everyone of you would love to see this fella in a Liverpool shirt and perhaps after the world cup SWP will decide wether he wants to take Bekhams RM slot in England or just another 21m sub at Chelsea.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

chelski know his quality and will not let him come to there biggest rivals next season,

and we can't afford 15million plus for a one season wonder who has sat on the bench all year

i think he would be a good signing but he will not be coming imo,

we could do with messi dad saying listen here son rafa is doing a great job over in liverpool get your self over there and stop your diving boll@cks even if it is funny against cheski

we could get someone better then him imo, he's overated. He would also cost a lot of money. Id rather pennant or joaquin to be honest.

Chelsea wouldn't want to make as much of a loss on the guy as we'd need them to.

I think he'd have made a good signing for us. He perhaps overachieved last season, but he's still more than capable of beating a man, whipping crosses in and getting goals.

Shame really. That ship has probably sailed. Hey ho.

He'd be our perfect signing i think...We're in a need of a RM who has pace, ability to beat players and provide good crosses.Don't think he will come to us now because chelsea wont sell him for cheap which is a shame.

Btw apparently the youngest wright-phillips is supposed to be the best. Can't remember where i heard it though.

A decent player who made a terrible move. Also about £12m over valued.

agreed, although i think joaquin would cost more.  However, i think Pennant could do the same job as SRP for 10 million less.

IMO SWP is far better than Pennant and Joaquin. He should be playing more at Chelsea that's for sure.  He's probably comparing notes with Owen on 'how to :censored: up your carreer with one easy move' as we read this...

I think SWP would have been a great signing last season for about £10 mill. Now he has gone to Chelsea for £21 mill he has priced himself out of a career basically. Chelsea wouldn't sell him for a penny less than £15 mill which for a player who has played just a few hours football all season is out of the question. Shame as he would have fitted into our side perfectly I think. He is certainly a better player Jermain Pennant in my opinion, I know Pennant has a lot of admirers on this forum but for SWP is by far the better player, his attitude alone would make him a preferable signing, Pennant is on the front pages as often as the back and Rafa wouldn't want anyone like that.
Having just said all that I would take Joaquim over them both, I just think the guy is absolute class and would make our midfield one of the absolute best in the world. I don't know how long a contract he has left and how much he'd cost and of course Rafa will want two strikers come the summer so it may be impossible but I'd still love to see him at Anfield.

Chelsea selling a quality player to their main rivals? With their money it would make more sense to make him sit on the bench or let him go abroad at a cut price surely.

Not good enough.

Yes he's a good player but he's not quality. He's nowhere near as good as people say he is. He's extremely overrated and the fact he can't get in the side ahead of a centre mid playing out of position (Joe Cole) or two left sided players (Robben and Duff) says it all.

He's nowhere near as good Jermaine Pennant, Joaquin, Beckham or any other quality right sided player. For me he'd be a complete waste of money, you'd be lucky to get him for 10million.

If he was to cost around 5million maybe 6million, i'd snap there hand off, he's not worth a penny more though.

Yes he'd improve the team and the squad slightly, but there are far better players out there. He does offer a better goal threat than Pennant but to suggest he's nearly as good is laughable, then theres the price issue.

Pennant is a better player and would cost far less.

Wright-Phillips is an overated loser. :)

What about Gary Teale from Wigan anytime I have seen him play he has impressed me. He has pace, skill and can cross well. I dont think he would cost mega bucks.

The other thing to consider is that he is used to the Premiership. So many foreign players either take to long to setttle in or dont fit in at all.

Im sorry but I dont want next season to be another maybe next year I want to see players that are ready to win us the title.

Good player, had and possibly still has the potential to be an awesome player.  However, theres no way Chelsea will sell him to us and so we're gonna have to look elsewhere.  Pederson anyone - cant remember if he's left or right footed but the guy appears to be an excellent player.
