From Teamtalk about Pennnt:

Jermaine Pennant's agent has played down reports of a fight involving the Birmingham midfielder outside a nightclub in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Pennant was kicked out of a party held by hip-hop star Kanye West at 3am following an alleged bust-up with security staff at The Works nightclub in Birmingham City Centre.

Pennant's representative Sky Andrew confirmed a group of students were giving the midfielder "stick" in the club, but attempted to play down the situation.

Andrew said: "The security staff at The Works were very helpful in defusing the situation."

Photographs of the incident were published in the Birmingham Evening Mail and eyewitnesses claimed Pennant, who served time in jail for drink driving last year, was "very drunk, shouting and swearing".

A female police officer stepped in to try and calm the situation down, but no charges have been brought against the winger.

Birmingham City have not made a comment on the incident.

Why doesn't that surprise me?

I think we all know what Jermaine's off the pitch antics are like, after all he did do time behind bars a while ago. However I don't believe a player should be judged on his off pitch antics, it's about what they do on the pitch that really matters and he's such a gifted player.

And I'm pretty sure Rafa would sort him out 'n' have him in line in no time.

Well he can't play very well for us if he' s banged up or dead/ paralysed in a car accident can he? Attitude can be the telling factor in consistent performance on the pitch and just how well LFC can benefit from a players talent - the name Cisse springs to mind....

Go and read Bigmick's post again Stu... summarised as - if price is no issue - get SWP. Only got 5 mill to spare, get Pennant.  Maybe Pennant would be the best option for us, maybe not - but he's certainly not the best player.

Anyone still remember this lad Wayne Routledge from Crystal Palace previous season?
Hes on loan now at Portsmouth from Spurs, there was a recent match he came on as a sub and did pretty well going past defenders and delivering good crosses.

Houllier-LFC,

He seems like a good choice but I don't rate him highly 'n' I think he needs a bit more experience in the league before we should even consider signing him. You've also gotta ask yourself can he hold the ball up and use what physical attributes he has to hold the ball up? Joaquin, Pennant 'n' even SWP can hold onto the ball.

TheoRacle, Pennant may not be the most gifted player out of SWP 'n' Joaquin but he's probably more reliable 'n' thats just what you need reliability, he can deliver a fantastic cross and he's a hell of a lot cheaper than Joaquin 'n' Shaun Wright-Phillips.

As much as I like the idea of signing SWP or Joaquin the fact of the matter is neither Betis or Chelsea will be willing to sell either player at a price that seems reasonable. Betis if they go down will slap a ridiculous £20 -£30 million price tag on Joaquin (maybe more). Chelsea are going to be more than reluctant to sell us such a dangerous player as SWP as we're their biggest rivals 'n' even if they would let us have him it won't be for less than what they paid for him, so Pennant seems like the obvious choice, unless you fancy trying to get Wayne Routledge, Aaron Lennon or Simao?

height doesn't matter, Owen's a midgit, Garcia's small, Ferenc Puskas was small in height, didn't stop him from being one of the best strikers in European history.

No way!!!! I agree Joaquin is a good player but SWP is English, brought up in England meaning he can play the aggressiv style and not have to adjust like Garcia and Alonso did. Everyone seems to have forgotten how many quailty goals SWP scored in his last season for City including one for England. He is the natural successor to David Beckham and may be expensive but he is one of the best wingers in the league and if we were going to fork out 11 or 12 Million for Simao then i dont see an extra 5 or 6 Mil on top for securing one of the best English talents a big deal. Rafa will be coming into a lot of money in the summer with amix of selling players, transfer kitty, adida money, new sponsors and investors and im sure hes going to try get SWP.

Clearly you've never seen Joaquin play.

I'd strongly advise you to watch the Spain vs England friendly (last year was it?) and explain to me how he was by a mile the best player on the pitch in a physical match.

You are completely clueless, what can you expect from a glory hunting armchair fan though...

Last year exactly. A lot has happend in Spain since last year mate including a drop in Joaquins form leading to our own Louis Garcia taking his place in the national side. He is not the player he used to be last year. Yes he posesses more skill than wright phillips but SWP showed last night how much better he performed than David Beckham providing cross after cross and eventually finding Joe Cole for the winner. Joquin is not as fast as SWP and would struggle for the pace of the EPL
