I know it's early but...... - Should we be getting carried away?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

All im saying is if we end up still finishing 4th we will look silly for getting so excited so early. Arsenal had an 11 point lead last season and look what happened to them.

if you want to look and feel silly bav, thats fine. but if some of us want to enjoy the excitement that a sniff of a challenge can bring - despite what happens in 2 or 3 months time - then leave us to it, eh?

I'd like to see how we cope with our first defeat.

Someone has to win the effing league so why not us.  The team looks confident which is more than half the battle and good luck to them

Although its early and also one game at a time

:D

January is also an interesting point, who might come in?

Jeez Andy, a right can of worms that one. Some players have come into clubs in January and helped with that final push, guiding the club over the line. Others have done an "Asprilla" and helped the oppo. Usually it's an experienced player which works, a Henryk Larsson or someone similar.

Thierry Henri in January to take the heat of Torress anyone?

that experienced player might be just the ticket and henry would be a great addition. he's not having such a fun time at barca so there is plenty of scope for speculation and other assorted welsh wizzardry.

heard he might join his buddy Ljunberg in Seattle  :p  :D

There was a poor post here and I've taken it off. In it, I got a wee bit umpty about the "fickle" thing, and stuck my head up my erse. Taff points it out in the next post.

Bigmick

While I love your posts thats a bit over the top.  You laugh at the arguments against you as if you and you alone have been the lone voice against the masses and now you have been proved correct, well thats just insane.  There are many points and these have been argued out over many posts.  I can say that I am pro Rafa for various reasons but these in your world are now being ignored as you were correct all time.  You even think Leon is having a dig at you and it seems at times you are more interested in winning arguments than anything else.

Without trawling posts and being petty with quoting (which I dont know how to do ubless its a direct quote) the arguments have been fair and varied on both sides albeit with some posters getting carried away and arguing.  You were never one of those but this last post looks like you are more interested in I was correct than in serious debate where you listen to other arguments

I do not particularly want a spat on the net as thats a bit crazy as well and I hope you take it in the right way but if not then quote away big guy

Taff my post is well over the top not a bit, and no doubt not one of my better efforts. It is though a comeback on on the old "fickle" line, the tried and tested put-down that anybody who dared to criticise the manager had to put up with for three seasons. I know Leon has said it's not directed at anybody in particular, but it is remarkably sim ilar to the stuff I've been getting for a few years now.

The post (badly I admit) attempts to point out that "fickle" comes in various forms.

I actually feel very positive just now Taff, hence the opening post in the topic. I'm at ease with life at Liverpool Football Club, and I think the manager is doing a fantastic job. I always thought he was doing an excellent job except for the way he picked the team. That was always my problem with him, his selection methodology. Now I said in my topic starter which was pretty much all positive, that I believe we'll be very close to winning it. I also believe we've got a pretty good chance of actually pulling it off. I don't see where fickle comes into it to be honest, that's what my post was about.

I've just re-read it though and it's a fair one, it's a piece of sh!t.

Indeed. It will be a crucial moment, and the time to show how strong they are mentally the next match.

Well if we continue to take chances on the team selection like we did tonight, our first defeat could come at absolutely anytime and anywhere. Granted we are entering a period where some rotation is called for, but that team tonight was asking for trouble. By all accounts we very nearly ran into some, hopefully  lesson learned, it would be a tragedy to have come so far and then spoil it.

As for Rafa's contract I though he still had 1 and a half years left on the current one so what is the rush? If at the end of this season everyone is happy with the job he's done he can be offered a new contract then.

Sorry, could not resist.

:D

Bigmick might be stubborn, but not fickle.

I agree he's been a bit sarky sometimes ( so have I sometimes!) and perhaps not so polite as the previous 4 years, but considering the hot topics we've been discussing, I think he has been polite enough.

He should ignore GYBS perhaps, but other than that I think Bigmick is the good old poster of always, and I hope he keeps his stuff.

Not the brief stuff that he sometimes has used because of some comments, I want the long stuff.

About the contract though, Bigmick, I disagree. It's true, there's still a year and a half of contract, but, you will agree that he probably has many teams chasing him and asking what's his situation. So we can't I'm afraid delay this until the summer and see what happens.

Of course we can do it, but we'd have a lot less chances of getting a new contract. In fact, I have a sad hunch on me, I think Rafa will win us the league and he will go. If he stays, it will be with conditions (Parry, owners, etc).

It's a tricky situation this. Many would give Rafa a contract depending on how well we end up this season, but I doubt we can wait that much if we reallistically want to keep him. In the eyes of Rafa, that delay won't look  as a sign of trust, and after the Klinsman incident they owe him one.
