Michael Owen has insisted he is ready to face Wales on Saturday - and sent a defiant message to his critics.
The Real Madrid man had to go off during his Bernabeu debut on Sunday after damaging his lower back.
But he said: "I've been for a scan and everything showed up all clear. I'm still feeling it a little bit but it's getting better every day.
Responding to calls for him to be left out, Owen added: "I don't think I've got to prove myself in any way."
The 24-year-old has made an indifferent start to life at Real after his £8m summer move from Liverpool and some have suggested in-form Tottenham forward Jermain Defoe be picked instead of him.
Owen said: "I've heard what people have said, so there is pressure from certain areas. I haven't set the world alight at Real Madrid but I haven't been as bad or ineffective as others have said.
"I've played three games for England this season, we've won two of them, drawn one of them.
"You don't turn into a bad player overnight. I've done nothing to suggest I've been playing badly.
"I'm not stupid. If I'm not playing for Real Madrid all season then I'm not going to expect the England manager to pick me, but we are at the start of a season.
"I've not changed. I'm 24 now and hopefully there's improvements to come in my career. I'm not going to suddenly dip and become this bad player. Everyone knows what to expect. I've got 63 caps, 27 goals, and there's no secrets really."
When Owen injured his back playing for Madrid, however, the calls for him to be left out increased.
But the striker believes he will be ready to face Wales.
"If I'm not training then obviously I won't be available for selection but if I can build it up and get back into training by Thursday then obviously I will be.
"Everyone, including the physios, thinks I have a very good chance. I had the same problem a few weeks ago but after two or three days I felt fine again."
It really seems like all this sh1t3 that people is giving him is starting to affect him, he gave us some good years and we should thank him for that even though he did seem to stall talks, he didn't do a McManaman and leave for the money
