None of them would be expected to start every game so its good to have a healthy squad rotation. Welsh and Partridge would probably not feature in the first team, with the exception of carling cup games.  Nunez and perhaps even Kewell would be a fringe player at most and remember, Gonzalez would be out until mid October.

Riise will most probably drop to LB if Rafa opts another player in LW (Zenden or Gonzalez). Remember, Hamann is 32 and he would at most be a backup for Alonso and Gerrard. Same with Sissoko. Sissoko would not expect to be in the first team straight away as he is still young and has yet to mature. Rafa will most probably use him as a backup for Gerrard and Alonso as well. Garcia will most likely feature in RW, despite rumours that we are in frantic search of a new RW.

Think Chelsea had Lampard, Makelele, Robben, Duff, Jarosik, Cole, Tiago, Smertin, Parker- and even then Gudjohnsen, Bridge and Glen Johnson were needed/used in midfield. As above post said some are not gonna expected to be used that often.

Rotatation and formation . We've got a long season ahead of us, expect a lot of squad rotation and slight variations on a 5 man midfield .

  Just spotted the other thread which was started two days before this one . Sorry I've fu'ckin replied to this one ,hate adding to what is essentially spam .

IMO

Gerrard - Alonso will be confirmed starters.

Zenden - Figo - Risse - Kewell - Garcia - Nunez - Gonzales will all be rotated on the wings.

Hamman and Sisoko will fill in for Alonso - Gerrard when needed and Hamman will feature in the CL.

RISSE
KEWELL
GONZALEZ
ZENDEN

Support strikers

Lads plus Nunez could be going to celta vigo. But to add another one can't Carra play there.I am glad we have so many midfielders this year.Remember last year with injuries we never had that many players for backup. This year we have.Get ready for a long and rotational season

i think we have the perfect amount of midfielders.
rotation, rotation, rotation!
as rafa would say- "they will give us possibilities, for sure!"
if anything we need an extra right winger!

-------------Reina------------------------------
Finnan/barraga-carragher-hyypia-risse/traore-------------
garcia/nunez - gerrard - alonso - Zenden/gonzalez
--------------pongolle-sissoko------------------
--------morientes/cisse/baros-------------------

I would be greatly suprised if Rafa didn't function with a 4-4-1-1 Sissoko is an amazing attacking midfielder, and I can see him playing in a supporting role to 1 striker, I am hoping cisse gets the run.

Everyone seems to be overlooking the fact that Partridge was released and Nunez is looking to be on the way out. With the amount of games we will have this season and factor in any injuries we might have and the amount of midfielders we have is fine.
