If we're out of the race for fourth then we have nothing left to play for in the league, and with our UEFA cup exertions on the Thursday and a potential final to consider, then it makes perfect sense that we rest Reina, Carragher, Agger, Johnson, Gerrard, Mascherano and Kuyt, else we're doing ourselves a disservice. It's a perfectly rational approach to take and I will still hoping for Spearing, Ayala, Lucas and co to do the business on the day.
FA is to far up fergie's @ss (that is what FA stands for) that they wouldn't stand for it if we changed one single player to the detriment of fergie's title asspirations.
It's not just about fergie winning a single league title, there is the bigger picture and two key numbers - four and 19.
Four is the number of league titles fergie would win in a row, unprecedented in all league history. Teams have won three in a row, several teams have, but never four in a row
3 in a row
Huddersfield Town - 1923/24, 1924/25, 1925/26
Arsenal - 1932/33, 1933/34, 1934/35
Liverpool - 1981/92, 1982/83, 1983/84
Man Utd - 1998/99, 1999/00, 2000/01
Man Utd - 2006/07, 2007/08, 2008/09
It would be bad enough they're the only team to do it twice
19 - as if this one needs explaining. Not only would the mancs go one ahead of us in titles won, with our title output stationary and not having advanced since 1989/90, and the most they've gone without a title is three seasons, the chances are they'll add more before we will (unless they go bust) and of course we would never hear the end of it. The danger with taunts is they come back to bite you on the Rs, and plenty of our fans have used our league titles to put down the arrogant mancs. While in front that is ok, but when you get caught and overtaken you must bend over and take it
