Houllier had a meeting with Moores and Parry tonight in the Lake District and they want him to become director of football. He is deciding whether to take that role or just leave the club.

With you on that fella. Apparently it all stems from Chelsea offering £30m and £125,000 a week for Stevie Gerrard.
Parry asked SG about the future and he said he would stay only if the club showed some ambition for the title by getting in a new manager. Owen also said similar forcing Parry and Moores to meet with Houllier.

Bit about the meeting here:

I beg to differ there Robbo, Stevie G was helped enormously last year by GH when he had problems in his private life and I can't believe he would do such a  thing !!!!!!!!!

But that's in the public eye isn't it? He's not going to slag him off in front of everyone when he's still got to play for him is he?
But once the season is over, and there's a big fat juicy Chelsea deal on offer, it's the perfect way to force out the failing Frenchman, having a quiet word with Parry.
I think it's very clever by SG and the correct thing to do for the club. He's merely said what many fans say, Liverpool would never have won the league under Houllier.

I have long suspected players discontent with GH's tactical ability and team selection. Good players cannot be satisfied being closer to bottom of the league (27pts) than to the top (30pts). Being consistently beaten by lesser teams (Portsmouth, Southampton, Spurs, Charlton, Bolton etc and that's just this season) and long way from being a real title challenger. Qualifying for Champs L'gue while lucrative but merely serve to cover up the club's need for change (no, not wholesale change as I believe the core of the squad is solid) starting with the manager, the man who gives tactical direction to the team and selection, then some of the dead woods.

How long are we going to be satisfied with Houllier's mediocre attitude ? He says he is ambitious but any ambitious man who under achieve after 6 years in charge should walk away feeling ashamed. But not Houllier...who moans week in week out about injuries, players tired from playing too many matches, bad referee decisions, weather etc. What about bad recruiting decisions, bad team selections, poor tactical awareness, mediocre attitude etc ??

Owen's expression during matches says it all. A top goal getter frustrated with lack of services available to him. And what was Houllier's respond? Yes playing him as a lone striker or paired him with another player played out of position (Kewell, Cheyrou etc). Why not Baros who needs a good run in the team to move up to another level?

Gerrard's attitude has been spot on, but as a team captain, born leader, Scouser and true-Red Liverpool player, he cannot be happy and fulfilled so I will not be at all surprised if he now demands a manager change.

Bottom line is a club of this size cannot have such low ambition. Finishing fourth is no consolation especially our main challengers are Newcastle, Charlton, Villa, Fulham and Bolton...these are teams that are so inconsistent and would be happy just to qualify for UEFA Cup. We have no god given right to be a champion every year (not that we are since '90) but it will not going to be for the lack of serious ambition...and we are not displaying sign of being an ambitious club if we insist on sticking by a certain Gerard Houllier for another (last) season!

Director, eh? what an idea; that's the place where he belonged.

GH was a man who thought he was a loner, but he knew it couldn't last...

Get back! get back to where you once belonged.

Liverpool boss Houllier faces sack
May 19, 2004

Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier could be sacked this week. The Sun says Houllier held showdown talks with chief executive Rick Parry and chairman David Moores yesterday.

Liverpool insiders refused to deny the claims late last night that Houllier would be axed, raising further doubts about the Frenchman's future. Houllier himself was still insisting he "is still in Liverpool" but privately has admitted he is unhappy at what he feels is a lack of backing.

There are also suggestions that leading players have been told there could be big changes over the next week. Houllier's contract still has 12 months to run but, tellingly, the board have not approached him about a new one.
