I'm not saying Houllier is Liverpool's worst ever manager.
Souness destroyed the (admittedly aging) Dalglish team by changing things too quickly and if we had gotten a better manager in 1991 I am confident Liverpool would not have suffered the decline that they did.
I mean, Ray Houghtan and Peter Beardsley both had magnificent seasons for Everton, Villa and Newcastle, proving that Souness sold them too early, and the sale of Staunton was also foolish.
Souness must go down as the worst Liverpool manager in modern times.
Roy Evans was no great shakes either. He was a decent but weak man who let his players do as they pleased. The story of David James and the mobile phone incident, if true, is an absolutely appalling indictment of Evans.
Houllier has been better than both of them, but as the months roll by and the results are still in the gutter, he will soon be mentioned (with justification) in the same breath as Souness.
Jolly Bob Grumbine.
