You could say that you've a lot in common with Dirk Kuyt then. Not only does Dirk look like a victim of a nuclear accident, but he also fires blanks!

I think this whole situation is getting blown waaay out of proportion.

The owners said that Klinsman was an INSURANCe policy in case RAFA LEFT

I think this is only coming out because they AREN'T going to sack him, as a way of dispelling any rumors to why they were talking to each other.

It isn't unheard of in the States to keep one eye out for the next manager or to name the next coach while the other one is still coaching, some assistants that have been at teams for a long time, work clauses into their contract that give them bonuses if they are NOT named the successor of the current head coach.

Rafa is Spanish and has ties to Real Madrid, and Real are a club of means, it would be foolish to rule out the possibility of Rafa getting persuaded to go there some day.

One thing is true, that us Americans, and particulary the two in quesiton do not jack sh!t about hiring a football manager, and if Real sacked Bernd in the middle of the season and poached Rafa, they wouldn't want to get caught with their pants around their ankles halfway around the world and not be able to find a good manager in a timely fashion.

They have come out and said they are in support of Rafa now, and that they ahve a new communication system that is working much better, and I believe them

so that means they can talk to someone else incase rafa leaves for madrid.  I'm sorry but thats BS. They talked to jurgen for a reason and that was reason was to make him the manager.

If that was the case then Jurgen would be manager now. They said they thought rafa was going to madrid, and why shouldnt they think that? theyve been away on business, rafa hasnt been happy and real madrid have been sniffing around. They have come out, stupidly in my opinion, and told everyone they were talking to klinnsman as an insurance. Rafa decided to stay and hes still here. Time to move on.

Manhattan has much in common with Dirk Kuyt.

Did you know that Manhattan's real name is also "Dirk Kuyt?"

I am not anti -american but I wouldn't trust those two if they said it was dark outside. Latest story is the contract was on the table waiting to be signed, thats not an insurance policy, that was Klinsmann to take over !

As George Bush nearly said :- If someone fools you once, shame on them, if someone fools you twice, shame on you.

If they didn't want Rafa to go(not sacked), why bring it out now 2 months down the line? If they sack him it costs them £6million, if he walks it costs then nothing.

Are you serious Saint they had the contract on the table, if this is true it makes them even lower than they already are.

A provisional contract is understood to have been drawn up with Klinsmann there and then, though it seems to have been a subsequent drift of events – rather than a breakdown in negotiations between the parties – which contributed to Klinsmann not signing it.

Klinsmann never signed the contract with the Americans, probably because he knew his popularity would start off very low and would struggle to increase, and also probably when considering that if this sneaky way of doing business and managing key staff is how the American work, it was perhaps as well he steered clear.

Yer gotta give respect to Klinsmann in all this though the lad has kept his mouth shut.
As you say Saint it most prob opened his eyes to the way he could be trated if he accepted

Here it is the pair of kunts where going to be found out so they had to come clean.

Graham Hunter reported this morning that Klinsmann was definitely offered the liverpool job.
Hunter was talking to Bayern officials at their winter training camp in spain about the klinsmann position and was briefed the following:

- Klinsmann had detailed talks with Hicks, and was assured that he would be taking over from Rafa at the end of the season
- Klinsmann started plans for the transition, including lining up his own men for back-up roles, including some 'new-age' type fellas he used with germany
- The talks went way beyond what hicks implied yesterday. The offer was definite, and was not some back-up insurance policy.
- When Bayern officials began to hear of this, they moved very quickly to offer klinsmann a lucrative deal.
