"If you lie down with Dogs at night , don't be surprised if you have fleas in the morning"

I wrote that some 2 and half years ago on hearing of the Glazier takeover at Manchester United.  Little did I know then that it would come back to taunt and haunt me as Liverpool Football Club descends into undignified and unmitigated chaos as the American owners plumb the depths of ethicity and effectivly get caught with their fingers on the trigger. Except in this case they have shot themselves in the foot.

Whatever the politics and personality between Benitez and Co- owners Hicks and Gillet you simply do not act like this in life, in football or in business. To compound the problem by issuing an attempt to justify their actions as some kind of insurance policy is laughable, except it isn't funny. You get insurance for your car or your house not against what "might" happen if and when clubs come calling for your manager. It's well documented that Real Madrid have made that call twice in recent times and Rafa refused on each occasion, Hicks and Gillet should know this as it was reported on the LFC official website at the time !

The question is where do we go from here ? You have to feel sympathy for Rafa whose position has been seriously undermined and I for one wouldn't be surprised if he's gone within a fortnight and that sad in my opinion. Whatever you think the current form or level of performance of the team and the intricate reasons behind that  Rafa Benitez has always conducted himself with the utmost dignity and proffessionalism. To my mind you couldn't possibly get anybody better suited to LFC than Rafa Benitez. His work ethic, his understanding of the club and the almost God like esteem he is held to by the fans is testament to his achievements both as a manger and as a man of the people. If Shankly made the people happy (and he did) then Rafa made us ecstatic with his Istanbul ressurrection. At Half time in Istanbul he is supposed to have said to the players " Give yourselves a chance to be heroes" Rather ironic then to discover the villians are within your own ranks and not outside the city gates. "Et tu Brutus " !

At Liverpool Football Club you have the following main players :

Hicks and Gillet - Promised great things at first about the traditions of the club being kept, a world class stadium, transfer funds made available, unstinting support for the manager etc etc Even if they had honoured the commitmments they have made all that was undone today when I believe we saw the real agenda and not the pyschopantic one thats been portrayed so far !

Rik Parry - Not a man you would want to be around when the Titanic is sinking and the lifebelts are being handed out ! Absolutly mullered by the fans for his handling of the Owen saga and the debacle that was Athens 2007, the mans lost touch with the fanbase and quite honestly doesn't know where to lay his loytalties although if history repeats itself he usually ends up "butter side up" when it comes to nights of the long knives !

Rafa Benitez - Left Valencia for less serious reasons than he has been subjected to over the last few months when you felt  he was teetering on the edge of resignation over his strained realtionship with the American owners. To discover that your successor has been courted before you have even left is akin to the Wife moving the Milkman in before you have had chance to pick your binbags up !

I was hoping above all things that talk of unrest and instability over recent months was just the press hacks having their pound of flesh now that Maureen has left these managerial shores and maybe my greatest disappointment is that this time at least the media were right when they sniffed for blood and discovered a smoking gun with two grinning Cowboys ....................

the timing is the thing, after klinsi comes out with there was no approach from english teams then out comes hicks and says we actually approached jurgen klinsmann, its actually bitterness, Rafa obviously knew ages ago but to unnessearily go public about it is twisting the knife...there must be some clash of personalities between rafa an hicks, its always hicks and never gillet strangely enough. Evil capitalist ba s tard.... he must be so arrogant he doesnt care what the fans think......he must be used to dealing with franchise fans....the dirty tramp

But were not Chelsea fans Puroresu or Chelsea football club were different they dont even qualify to be mentioned in the same breath as us were loyal mate they wouldnt know loyalty if it shot them on the leg

I'm not saying we are are the same as chelsea.  I'm just saying I dont think anything will stop the Yanks getting rid of Rafa if thats what they want to do.  To be honest I dont even see how rafa and and the main players on the board can work together now.  Could u imagine the next meeting?

I don't post often.  But I cannot keep silent this time.
I am well and truly in shock and disbelief over the manner in which the owners have handled this whole situation.  I am disgusted.  They have lied to us, they have mis-lead us, and they are currently dragging the Liverpool name through the mud.  We have in one short year become the laughingstock of the Premier League.

I firmly support Rafa Benitez.  I think that he is a great manager and that he could lead us to win the league mulitple times over.  Sure, he has made mistakes in the transfer market, and in some player usage and substitutions.  But overall, in the last four years he has done remarkable things with our club.  He has a long term vision for LFC and I firmly believe by his actions he expected to be here for a long time.

I do not want Morinho as our manager.  He does not embody the Liverpool spirit.  HE whines, he moans, he complains, he is essentially a disgrace.  And I would be gutted if he were hired to replace RB.  I would feel gutted for RB because of the lack of respect they have for each other.

I cannot believe that anyone with a clear conscience or any working mental capacity could still support the owners at this stage.  They have done NOTHING to earn our trust or our support.  This is truly a sad day for Liverpool.

I am sorry that my nation is being represented by these ignorant, childish liars.

Gutted.

With all due respect, but f*ck Chelsea. Chelsea has nothing to do with what's happening here, and what is happening here is different to their situation. F*ck that club and their plastic fans. We're Liverpool and we don't do things this way.

Ta Nanny, I know we don't always agree visa-vis our respective loyalties to rafa and how well we think he's doing the job, but this is totally beyiond the joke the way these two c...s are carrying on. Disgraceful.

I'd actually have 1000% more respect for them if they'd have just sacked him. If they were man enough to pull the trigger and get a new manager in, we could all argue till the cows come home about how ruthless they are, whether they've done the right thing etc etc. This isn't ruthless though, this is snidey, sly, behind your back c...ish behaviour of the very lowest order. Hicks in particular out of the two appeares to be the sort of bloke you'd want to keep in front of you so you could see what he was doing. A right sly, canniving c... if ever there was one.

It probably won't do anything in terms of improving his personality long term, but he's the sort of fecker that if you were going to kick him in the b@lls, you'd want to make sure you took a run up so as to ensure you got maximum power into it.

But thats the thing  its gone far beyond Rafa now theve not only undermined him in this sneaky  buisseness but the fans and the name of the club. Ok im not ashamed to say im 100% a Rafa supporter and i would be gutted if he left. But as people have said if they want him gone why didnt they just sack him. Theres no need to keep this charade there hiding behind up any longer.

We are educated football supporters not some kids of :censored: sesame street and as far as im concerned theve treated us like no marks

Theres lies the problem though , this unsavoury piece of buggery has made what has always been the Special club into another Newcastle or Chelsea

Frigging disgrace and dark day for the club

Dalglish is spot on.

Liverpool football club doesn't need insurances in case Rafa leaves. Liverpool's history, Liverpool's players, Liverpool's reputation is the best insurance in case Rafa leaves. Many top coaches would come happily to Liverpool with no need to make arrangements.

What's the point in coming and saying that now once Klinsmann has accepted Bayern Munich job? No matter how you look at it it's foolish. If you pretend to annoy Rafa and make him walking away, then you don't know anything about Spanish way of thinking. Rafa won't walk away, and he'll stick to his contract until the last consequences instead, and will focus in training more than ever. If you pretend to calm the fans in case Rafa leaves, then you're the biggest moron on earth. No matter how you look at it, it's beyond my comprehension

If they want him out, let them grow some balls and sack him, if they have any notion of what honour is.

Smashing piece Dalglish. Well said.

Much more of a sensible read/angle than the one which suggests promoting the burning of American flags, kicking people in the bollox...or heaven forbid "I'll f*ckin kill 'em!" mentality...amongst other enlightening reactions.  Emotionally charged responses aside, with regards to what is clearly a depressing picture thats been developing for a while now. Seriously people - have a little decorum. This might be the way the media would like to have you believe certain aspects of the Liverpool supporters behaviour must undoubtedly extend. But it is categorically, historically and retrospectively not the way forward - nor has it ever been. Those types of reactions i wouldn't be at all surprised to hear about coming from the bowels of lesser clubs than this one. We are bigger than that. We are Liverpool Football Club remember. Just about for now we are anyway.
