Liverpool co-owner George Gillett says he will not sell his shareholding to Tom Hicks and has accused him of creating "turmoil" at the club.

Gillett was responding to Hicks's claim that he is preparing a "very attractive offer" to buy out his fellow American.

The relationship between the two men broke down some time ago, leading to civil war breaking out at Anfield.

Hicks wants Liverpool chief executive and Gillett ally Rick Parry to quit, labelling his tenure a "disaster".

But Parry has the support of Gillett and a majority in his favour among the club's six-man board.

Gillett said: "I am saddened at this latest outburst from Tom Hicks.

"Here we are, a few days away from a vital Champions League semi-final match and Tom has once again created turmoil with his comments.

"If Tom wanted a serious discussion on the issues to help the club move forward, he should bring his views to the board and not to Sky Sports.

"Tom should stop. He knows that Rick Parry has my support and that airing his comments in this way will not change my position.

"His failure to discuss this with the Board or the management committee is significant."

Is it just me or is Gillett being hypocritical.
He talks about the bad timing of Hicks' little propaganda stunt...and states that veiws should be brought to the board.

So where is the logic in Gillett making a public statement so close to the Chelsea game?

Never in your wildest dreams could anyone have expected such clueless idiots to be in 'control' of our club!
unbelievable! :(

Gillett hits back at Hicks in row

Liverpool co-owner George Gillett says he will not sell his shareholding to Tom Hicks and has accused him of creating "turmoil" at the club.

Gillett was responding to Hicks's claim that he is preparing a "very attractive offer" to buy out his fellow American.

"Tom should stop. He knows that Rick Parry has my support and that airing his comments in this way will not change my position.

"His failure to discuss this with the Board or the management committee is significant."

Parry told Radio 4's Today programme: "I'm accountable to the board and this is not something the board has discussed with me.

"I think I have a responsibility, indeed a duty, at the moment to try to keep things on an even keel when there's a degree of turmoil off the pitch.

"The club will survive, we've got a Champions League semi-final coming up, there are a lot of important things to be done at the club and that's our focus."

Statement from SOS , ripped from rawk.

There’s one thing to do. One thing you can do. That’s stand up. That’s fight back.

The situation is this: Hicks needs to raise money and he’ll be going back to the banks. The deal him and his estranged cohort got months back was an edgy one, an expensive one. Given the world economic situation, given our relationship with them, given their own track record, they got an expensive short term deal and in the process exposed RBS/Nat West and Merril Lynch. The former were worried about discussions of disruption and boycotts.

Let’s give them something to worry about. Let’s start disrupting RBS. Phone calls, letters, faxes, emails. We’ll get you the details. Trust us when we say they don’t want this and trust us when we say we can do this. We can hurt RBS. Hicks, the ignorant bully, may think he’s bloody-minded. We can show him, RBS and anyone else who may back him what bloody-mindedness really is.

The meat of the ignorant bully’s statement is that Rick Parry is incompetent. Rick Parry is no more incompetent now than he was after Athens. That’s pretty incompetent, but Parry is also a vote on the board against Hicks. It’s more bullying to get his own way.

And more lying. The debt won’t be on the club. Really, Tom? You’ve moved away from this:

“When I was in the leverage buy-out business we bought Weetabix and we leveraged it up to make our return. You could say that anyone who was eating Weetabix was paying for our purchase of Weetabix. It was just business. It is the same for Liverpool.”

Whether the debt is on the club or not, who will service it? Will you service it? Or do you want us to pay for you and Gillett to buy the club, us to pay for you to then buy Gillett’s half and us to then pay for the stadium. How much debt will you have us service, Tom? But it’s just business.

And on the stadium – Hicks accuses Parry of having been slow to make it happen. Probably very true. But Hicks said he’d have a spade in the ground within sixty days, almost eighteen months ago. He still hasn’t raised the money to pay for this spade. More spin. More smug Texan fireside talk when the club is in crisis. More absenteeism.

The bully wants his own way: “If George doesn't sell - because I am not going to sell - I guess we stay in this position that we are in.” And if he doesn’t get his own way he’ll gladly run this football club into the ground. He’ll gladly continue the inertia. He’ll gladly cut off his nose to spite his face. Except he won’t. This is a negotiating strategy. He knows his own position can become untenable very quickly, he knows his investment can depreciate in value, he knows he may have to bow to the inevitable DIC offer.

No one is saying he isn’t also prepared to stick it out but we can influence that. We can hurt the banks that are already unnerved by him. We can make a difference, possibly the final difference. We can stand up and be counted. Now is the time to stand up and be counted. Hit the banks, hit the phone-ins, repudiate the lies, attack the bully.

No money, no credibility, no honesty, no integrity, no dignity, no custodian. HICKS OUT NOW!

Liverpool fans show their anger at latest Tom Hicks interviewTimes Online and PA

Liverpool fans' groups have criticised Tom Hicks' latest attack on the way the club is run as "destabilising" ahead of next week's Champions League semi-final.

Neil Atkinson, the chairman of the Spirit of Shankly group set up to fight the Americans' ownership, is angry at the timing of the Texan's comments: "We have a European Cup semi-final coming up in a few days time and this is a terrible time to do what he has done," Atkinson said. "He [Hicks] thinks he can rattle out this sort of stuff and leave everyone to get on with it. Rather than be silent and stay in the background over the next four or five weeks. He had one big go in the week between the Arsenal semi-final and the Hillsborough memorial service.

"There were huge numbers of supporters grieving for loved ones. It was a time to be respectful and understand what this football club is all about. But Mr Hicks seems to have no respect for anyone. He didn't say anything on the day of the service, but straight afterwards he is up and running again.

"Tom Hicks has got no respect for football or this club. The man cannot be trusted at all. He said there would be no debt on the club, but that is not what has happened. The situation with Rick Parry is really an irrelevance. He is good for one thing only, and that is his vote at board meetings to keep Hicks at bay. Apart from that, it looks as if whoever ends up owning the club, be it Hicks or DIC, Rick Parry probably won't be in a job any more."

Les Lawson, spokesman for the Liverpool supporters' club, believes that nothing Hicks has said will change the view the fans have of him. "We've seen what Hicks has said and we still want him out," He said. "For all this to come out again as we are about to play Chelsea in the Champions League semi-final has angered the fans

Taken out of context, like most tabloids you all buy!

he said he wanted to buy outright the club, not that he actually WAS!

he did make some alarming points about rick parry.

He made a point about Rafa coming to them with a list of players that we missed out on because of PArry's lack of communication ability.

If that is true, that to me is VERY SERIOUS.

he has met Rick, and must have got vibes about him, the fact that we only have 2 sponsors, new stadium, and are not doing well in Asia. Parry is in charge of all of this on a day to day basis, some eyebrows have to be raised.

Hicks is a businessman, not an idiot. and I doubt he just plucked that out of thin air.

something has got to give. i reckon Parry is out.
