Hicks and gillette

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I know its early, but I think up to now Hicks and Gillette have made all the right noises. They heard about the ticket ballsup and have promised a revue of the allocation of tickets.

We had a very short time in which to organise the transfer of Lucas, and yet the deal was done.

We had plans for a 60k max stadium with no option to increase the capacity, at the very least we are now expected to have the option to increase capacity.

They have said the money will be available for players, and hopefully they will follow through on this as well.

Not a bad record considering they have only been here 2 mins.

Here's hoping they keep their word and make the funds available to Rafa and that he

makes some quality signings. We've already got the foundations in place, it just needs

a bit of tinkering here and there so he doesn't really need to go on a mad shopping

spree.
You can buy all the quality you like, but without desire, passion and the insatiable will to win, it’s nothing.

I like them. I like them a lot.

I prefer Gilett at the moment, seems more active but I'm sure Hicks will come good.

Radio City 96.7 Steve Morgan View

Morgan backs new LFC owners

Steve Morgan, the man who came close to a takeover at Liverpool Football Club, has revealed his heartache at selling his shares in the club.

Speaking exclusively to Radio City, the Merseyside based businessman believes new American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have made a good start to life at Anfield.

One of the rules of the takeover means Morgan was forced to sell his stake which he held since 1974.

He said: “I must confess I felt a bit low the day I parted with my shares. I’d held them very proudly for many, many years and I would rather have kept them.”

Morgan made a multimillion pound bid to buy LFC in 2004 but the paperwork was never completed.

The Garston born man won’t reveal the exact details of why the deal fell through but insists he came “very, very close” to buying the club he loves.

Morgan thinks Gillett and Hicks have the potential to succeed at Anfield: “I think the club being 100% owned is probably a good thing and I think they will be good custodians,” he added.

“They’ve done a good job with the stadium and they will hopefully take the club onto bigger and better things.”

“I think the fans were always in favour of a local person taking over the club, whether it was me or somebody else. I think there’s no major opposition to the Hicks and Gillett bid so good luck to them.”

With the clubs second Champions League Final in three years just days away; Morgan is looking forward to the Greece showpiece.

Reflecting on the remarkable comeback against AC Milan in Istanbul he is confident the Reds can do it again against the Italians.

But he admits without the fans at half time in 2005 Liverpool would never have won their 5th European crown.

He recalls: “I was sat next to Ian Rush and at half time we hoped it wouldn’t get any worse. But the turning point for me was the best rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone ever and you could see the Italians looking around wondering what the hell was going on.”

Stevie Morgans give them his backing then. I hope this summers dealings live up to expectations now. I am sure they will back Rafa.

these guys are not just about making money, they love sport, they have a passion for it and what they`ve seen since coming to Anfield has blown them away. they respect the fans and do things to make your matchday experience something to remember and hopefully will do again and again, someone should of told them that you can treat fans like shit over here and they`ll still keep coming :D

look at it this way if they are just here for the money they aint going to make any if where not successful

they do seem to good to be true and only time will tell if they can live upto there promises, but for now anyway they have my full backing.

All I'll say is this.

Liverpool Football Club - Global brand managed like a corner shop.

Mr Gillett and Mr Hicks, now the honeymoon period is over you've got work to do.

These guys are marketing specialists, I have absolute confidence in their ability to capitalise on our broad fanbase throughout the world.

We've never exploited our revenue potential to it's maximum, these guys know what it takes.

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks believes that manager Rafael Benitez will be a busy man in the transfer market this summer, regardless of the outcome of Wednesday's Champions League final against AC Milan.

As soon as Hicks and his business partner George Gillett completed their takeover of the Anfield club earlier this season, speculation was rife that Benitez would be given a huge amount of money to spend on improving the strength and quality of his squad.

And Hicks' latest comments would appear to suggest that they will indeed be funding a major close-season assault on the transfer market.

"I know we will make changes," Hicks told the Liverpool Echo.

"Rafa has already announced one signing in Lucas Leiva, who looks really good. I think Rafa will be a very busy man after Wednesday.

"The potential of Liverpool is even greater than I imagined when we bought the club. We knew all about Liverpool's history and tradition.

"The Istanbul victory was so important for the long-term legacy of the club, and if we can win a second so soon that really establishes us and makes Rafa's job easier to add some players.

"We've already started that process and next year we want to contend for both the Premiership and Champions League. Actually, we want to challenge for all four competitions.

"I know what Rafa tells me and I make judgements on his judgements. He has told me the types of improvement he feels we need to compete week in and week out. That's the challenge," the American added.

They seem very positive and upbeat about the summer . I'm happy that there saying and doing all the right things at the moment. If we win the champions league its estimated that we will earn £70 million ,which will help.

No-one earns £70m for winning the champions league. At best you're looking at £30m.

I'm talking about the extra revenue created from winning the champs league i.e shirt sales , sponsership and such like, it was mentioned on five live the other day by some proffessor of sport.

That's absolute nonsense, £70m is well over over half of our entire revenue for the whole season. That figure is alice in wonderland mathematics. Last season our revenue was around £120m, in our champions league winning season before that our revenue was £123m. The season before that in 03/04 our revenue was £92m. Therefore the extra OVERALL revenue is about £30m.

Winning the Champions league earns you nothing remotely close to the figure suggested by that loony mathematician.
