Heinze anyone? - move to liverpool turned down

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby stmichael » Thu Aug 02, 2007 11:57 am

Came across this today:

Liverpool will move for Celta Vigo defender Diego Placente if they fail to sign Manchester United's Gabriel Heinze. (Daily Express).

Isn't he the dude that played for leverkusen against us a few years ago? Very good little player then he was. Don't know about his current exploits in Spain.

Players capable of playing left back currently at the club.

Riise, Aurellio, Arbeloa, Carra, Agger, Insua, Finnan, Threlfall

Personally i think Rafa should be looking at a pacey centre half who is young and willing to fight Carra and Agger for a 1st team spot. Kompany if he is injury free is an option.

I have always rated Luisao and i think he would be a superb signing but he probably would be in the starting eleven and i wouldnt want to drop either Agger or Carra.

I love the guy but everything changes if we have to play Hyypia at CB. It effectively changes our whole game - we defend deeper, and we have more difficulty playing the pressing game, as we don't like our midfielders to push on too much in case our defenders are exposed. So the gap appears between our forward line and our midfield, which means more speculative and usually misplaced passes, and a lack of runners from deep.

I've mentioned this many times, that a centre half is much more a priority than a left back. My prefered option, basing only on my knowledge of European football, I'd have to choose Steven Taylor from Newcastle. If he was playing in a top top side, he'd be one of the best centre halfs in England. He is also a perfect replacement for Carra in a couple of years. He's still young, strong and quick. He also knows how to play in the premiership. May cost us a little more than most of the other names that have been flying round, but IMO, he's worth every penny. I've head the name Milito being branded round by people, not being the most continetal person, wouldn't know if he's worth it or not, can some of you lot fill me in on his qualities and wheter he's worth signing? Metzelder is another name I've heard. German lad, again can anybody tell me if he's good enough to wear the Liverpool shirt?

4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Placente turned 30 on the 24th of April 2007, he can play as a LB and a LWB. I watched a handful of games that he participated in for both Bayer and Celta and he looked pretty competent in all these games. He came across in each of these games as a technical and intelligent little player who likes to get forward when possible, but doesn’t neglect his defensive duties.

The problem with Placente is age is not on his side, he is 30 years old, and would it be ideal for a man of his age to move to an alien league at such a late stage in his career? I’m not entirely confident, he could take a long time to adapt and there is a chance that he might not adapt at all.

I’m sure Celta would accept an offer of around £3.5m - £4m for Placente if Benitez offered Celta this range, but I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if Celta try and squeeze much more out of Liverpool.

An interesting fact regarding Placente is that he turned down Everton two seasons ago in favour of signing for Celta.

I hope this was of help to you.  :)

HAHA! Yeah, out of all the words, you got those one's spot on. I'd say his most used word in interviews after a game or about a player is "quality". He says that a LOT. Or he says squad a lot. Or in his expression it's "We've got a big'a squad'a, with a lot of quality, for sure!".

Its high time this Heinze affair was put to bed!
Hes a player i would appreciate at LFC and i admire him for having the balls to stand up for what he wants but.....

LFC is too big to be held at ransom by Alex ferguson and his disciples.Personally i feel its becoming tedious..its like a 'will he wont he' cliffhanger in a cheap sope opera that we can do without.
I dont know about anyone else but im sick opening a paper and seeing Carlos fuc.king Tevez or switching to SS News and hearing about the 'Carlos bastar.ding Tevez affair'.....its a circus football can do without.

Do we really want to drag our great club into court over one of Fergies cast offs?
Do we want to be on the News or in the papers looking desperate like UTD are over Tevez?

No way we are better than that.
There is no glory or pride to be lost. The Mancs will not have got one over us if Fergie gets his way and Heinze(against his wishes) is sent packing abroad to Juve or someone else.

The LFC board and Raffa should withdraw their interest right away and concentrate their energies on making sure our team get a great start to the season..a winning start that we all want and need.

Fuc.k Man UTD...We should take it as a compliment that Fergie fears our strength and does not want to allow a good player to join a squad that is on its way to great things.

BEST WAY FOR RAFFA TO REMAIN THE BIGGER MAN!!

Send Fergie a polite letter saying we are no longer interested..then do the double over the bas.tards in the League on our way to winning it!

Agree with you TG.  Go one better and lets put a bid in for Tevez.  Love to see Fergies face if that happened.

We should have made it a January Double Swoop.  I am sure West Ham would have preffered that as well.  A LOT less controversy for them, actaully nevermind, Tevez kept them up by himself.

From The Daily Mail:

Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze will meet manager Sir Alex Ferguson on Monday and tell him he wants a move to Liverpool.

United are determined not to sell left back Heinze to their arch Premiership rivals, even though Liverpool have met a £6.8million price tag placed on him by Old Trafford chief executive David Gill.

Heinze's lawyers are threatening to take United to court to force through a sale and have also asked the Premier League to consider mediation.

Last night the Argentina defender expressed his frustration at being caught in the middle of a dispute which he feels has little to do with football.

Heinze, who has been on extended holiday after playing in the Copa America, said: 'This weekend I will travel back to England and, like a professional, I will go to work in Manchester on Monday. I have asked for a meeting with manager Sir Alex Ferguson on Monday about my future. I'm sure that this meeting will tell me what my future is.

'I know that the offer of Liverpool is a good one but Manchester United have rejected it for reasons that are really outside of normal sporting issues.

'I'm totally convinced that if this offer had been made by another club then Manchester United would have considered it. The rivalry between these two clubs is enormous and now I am at the centre of it.'

Heinze has two years left on his contract but his lawyers claim that a letter sent to them by Gill at the end of last season saying he could leave for a set fee should now stand as a legal document.

United have so far stood firm on the matter and are confident that any independent body would side with them.

Heinze's name was jeered by some supporters during the club's 3-2 defeat to Inter Milan in a friendly at Old Trafford on Wednesday but the player himself is not concerned.

Heinze added: 'I always was a serious and professional player and during this summer I have not changed.'

FROM THE HORSES MOUTH!!! :)
