Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby stmichael » Mon Apr 19, 2004 2:39 pm

i'm sick of all this doom and gloom. i know we have users on this forum of all ages and from different eras. i just thought i would get a discussion going as to the best goal they have ever witnessed first hand by a liverpool player. it would be interesting to hear different accounts of different goals considering how much the game has changed from the old days. i mean it could be a fantastic individual effort or it could be a great team goal. whatever the case, we have all been lucky to watch some of the best football you are ever likely to see down the years and there have been some pretty memorable goals.

Jan Molby's pass to Ian Rush who scored Liverpool equalizer in the 1986 FA Cup final against Everton.

Or the important goal Kenny Dalglish scored at Chelsea on the final league game of that season.

In recent times Didi Hamman's goal against Fulham last season was very good, as was McAllister's against Everton in 2001.

Fowler scored many memorable goals in his time but my favourite was Digger Barnes.

He got a peach of a back flip against Crewe in the cup one year and also scored one Maradonaesque wonder in the league at Anfield in 1987/88......against whom I can't remember but I think it was either QPR or Sheff Wed.

Ok, memory is pants so i probably can't explain things well. My favourite liverpool goal seen 2nd hand is Mcmanaman against Celtic, that gliding run :)
My favourite first hand goal was Murphy's little dink over Barthez a few years ago in that great win. I know its recent but i just don't like Bartez and was glad to see him look like an idiot. that ones very close to Gerrards smash against him hehe

Best goal i've seen at Anfield 2nd Sept 1978 Terry McDermott's header against Tottenham in the 7-0 drubbing... sheer class

Yeah I remember that John Barne's goal think it was against QPR - bloody fantastic.

Best goal I can remember off the top of me head was in the 1988 Cup Semi Final against Forest
Beardley and Barnes combine brilliantly down the left and Digger hits in a great cross on the run. Aldridge comes in full pelt and bangs in a brilliant volley - magic!

Favourite goal for me, though not the best has to be Tommy Smith's header in the European cup final 1977, still get goose bumps just thinking about it! Christ what a night that was!!

I have to agree with the Mcdermott goal in 1978 against spurs. I was standing in the Paddock aged 11 excited at watching the two world cup winners, Villia and Ardiles. Liverpool tore them apart that game and then came the seventh goal, sheer class.

Meeeeeeeeemmmmmmmmmmmooorieeessssssss  :D

If any of you seen Jamie Redknapp's goal in this game, you'll be lucky to see a better goal.  I for one can't believe it doesn't get better mention.  Everbody remembers Roberto Carlos' free kick goal in Le Tournoi back in 1997.  This goal was similar.

Redknapp had the ball about 35 yards from goal, not being challenged.  As he kicked it with the outside of his right boot, the ball went left, before curling outwards and right (the opposite trajectory of Carlos' effort due to being right footed) heading straight into the top corner.  The Russian goalkeeper just stood and watched it go in.

Absolutely brilliant goal.

Also see this page, reading halfway down the second paragraph.

Not best i've seen, but one that excited me most was Owen's second against arsenal in 2001 FA Cup final, still get chills down my spine when i watch it.
