I thought today will be a happy day, a day when we are finally being liberated from the Houlier’s regime…but I am not. It’s a somber feeling really…while I must say the past 2 years have turned sour for Houllier, after he apparently took the club as far as he professionally can, I must also applaud his scarifies, dedication discipline and service rendered to our beloved club.

Sentiments aside, the club must move on. It is larger and more important than any individual. For us to regain our glory days, we need someone with new ideas and fresh impetus at the helm. Houllier must take credit for leaving the club at the current state, qualified for next season’s Champions League and a team that is just a few puzzle short from challenging the best in the land, and dare I say (dream) the continent soon.

While no one will want to argue that Houllier is a good manager, it is ultimately his tactical (in)ability, transfer records, motivation ability, and lacking of the extra edge needed to push this team to the very top that remains his ultimate downfall.

Let’s all remember the good time he brought us back in 2001. We rejoiced like we never did in the preceding 10 years. Please Gerard Houllier, do continue to support us, and see the seeds that you sow grew to be the champion that you have visioned.

despite being one of houllier's biggest critics over the past couple of years i am also a bit apprehensive at the moment about our new appointment. it is the biggest decision this football club has had to make, certainly during my lifetime.

what baffles me is why the board didn't make this decision at the corresponding time a year ago, when we were in a much worse position than we are now. we didn't even have champions league football despite one of our best starts ever to a league season. maybe the board are finally listening to the fans. you can't kid scousers.

he deserves respect and i personally enjoyes=d the 2001 treble season as the best ever season in my time alive (im 20) because i was too young to appreciate the eighties!

he won some trophies gave us some brilliant memories got rid of the spice boys tag, and instilled pride dignity and professionalism back into the club when we were a laughing stock! but he took us as far as he could!

champions league will be more appealing to a new manager which is a good thing, but cisse better still come, he wants to but i hope the board and new manager wants him to as well!

oh come on !........good riddance i say, he was an awful manager, to say he didnt know his ***** from his elbow is an understatement, liverpool is a massive club, with some excellent players who havent yet played to their full potential, why ? because gerrard houllier switched the team round week in and week out, he got rid of one half of the greatest partnerships in the league (owen and fowler), thats when i decided he had to go ! we cant afford to make big mistakes thats why ive fingers crossed for a GOOD manager

I'm really sad he had to go. Ok, the past two seasons were really poor but I think this year we've been unlucky. If you have so many injured players you can be confident with the fourth place. One cannot say if we would have had a better season with him next year but I think so because there are many good players who are likely to come to Anfield. And Houllier showed in 2001 that can be successful with the club. I just hope that he'll be at Anfield for the first match of the season so that the Kop can thank him for the 6 years with a great reception.
