Dont get me wrong, I love the guy

He made me love Liverpool, he's the reason i love soccer

But he's gotten old

He ain't it he game as much as he used to be

He doesnt show how good his magical right foot is anymore

im sorry, but every legend has an end and i think Gerrard is reaching his

Life expectency must be really short where you come from.

F*ckin hell, the fella is only just turning 30 and that's old and cause for losing his legs? Complete bollox. A man, especially in the modern game, can be just as fit, fast, and as agile well into his 30's as he was when he was a teenager and that's a fact.

yeah i know, Reina is staying till he's 34 and Carraghar is 32 and gonna be here for around 1 or 2 more seasons

Gerrard is staying for 2 or 3 seasons
but how often do u see him make the difference, like he used too??

Almost every single game. Look a Stevie G at 50% of his usual self is still a million times better than any other offensive player we have with the obvious exception of Torres and very occasionally Benny when he plays a blinder.

???  Next best thing to what exactly, hes 31 years old

Well i thought he was 30. Anyway he has peaked late and is verging on an England 1st team place. He's very good and looks like he'l be good till 35. Defo a better choice than carra. Or we could get that Johnson guy (i think thats his name) from Birmingham.

Would love to see Ash Young here though. No team has succsessfully shut him down in a game this season. He's got all the makings of becoming the next Beckham.

I think we should cash in on Gerrard now. He'l prob want to go to R. Madrid anyway and we could get £30m out of him. This season he has gone MIA in almost every game.

like who exactly ?

We should sack Benitez so that when we sign MON ( :D ) he can bring Ash Young etc with him. Lennon is out there and Calton Cole.

Changed my mind about Gerrard. In an ideal World we would sell Gezza and then buy Young with the money. Then Move Kuyt down the middle and play Babel on the LW regularly. Janovic or w/e will come in and do solidly and then maybe we could buy Kevin Doyle to step i now and again. Gerrard i love you but for the future of the club i think we need a new English talisman.

Going off topic:
Overall i would like to see us sign...

Upson - £12m ...The guy is the next best thing
Young - £30m ... Hello supply to Torres
Doyle - 7m     ... Can fill in for Torres and score goals
C Cole- £15m  ... Can push Torres for 1st team/play with him
Huddlestone - 6m ...Could be a up 'n' coming gem

Total: £70m

Sell..

Reira - £6m
Funds from Januray 2010 deals £5-7m
Gerrard - £30m
Aurelio - £5m
Lucas - £7.5m
£25m from club transfer funds and maybe £5-10m more

Total: £78 - 80m

:buttrock

So you wanna play Kuyt in midfield, buy carlton cole and doyle to go up front with Torres, buy a very average midfielder (huddlestone) and spend 30 mill on probably the most overrated winger in England...

:help

The only player you mentioned that would actually be worth buying is Lennon and I doubt Tottenham would give him to us cheap.

Lol

Com on. Young and Cole would be great additions for us. Young sets up goals like crazy and Cole is the 'hold the ball up' type of Striker Benitez likes. We need English talent. I hate Utd but look at theier team. Im jelous that they have 5+ English interationals and others such as Giggs and Evans who are from Britain as a whole. We need hard working English young talent who can string more than 2 words together in a post match interview.

All we have are Gerrard and Carra who are both getting on. If we bought Cole, Young and maybe Michael Johnson (new Gerrard) the we would have 3 players who are all English and who are reliable. With English players you know your gona get 80%- 100% out of them compared to alot of foreigners who rarely give 100%.

EDIT: We have Johnson.

Anyhow. I think we should sig 4 big names this summer to plump up the squad.

Gerrard aint finished.  he's had a terrible season by his own standards but has still being one of our top players and i can see him doing a job for another couple of years.

Maybe he is just finished being our god like saviour.  But he is only human and at 30 we have to start lowering our expectations of this legend and put more pressure on the others to perform.

Dont get me wrong, I would like to see Ashley Young at the club even though he is overrated.. he would still be our best option on the left wing. But for 30 Million no chance in hell. He isnt worth that. And Cole would cost us at least 15 Million.

I too would like more English players in the side but they are just too overpriced.

The only real way we can get english players right now is by bringing in the young english talent that dont yet have a rediculous price tag. Rafa has just bought one of the brightest looking English talents since rooney was a kid, Raheem Sterling. He cost us 500k and another 500k will be added on once he moves into our reserve squad. This is £1 Million for a 14 year old kid.

Joe Cole is out of contract this summer and will be a brilliant signing for somebody. If he is available we should be in there like a shot.

but to sign 4 big names we're gonna have to offload 5 or 6 of our bunch just to cover the cost so not gonna plump us up, maybe the quality would be better though

How many players would we need to sell to buy a good one though?  Mr Hicks has said it will be a big summer but why dont i believe him....
I get the feeling we'll have a sell-to-buy approach once again.

We need a left back, right back, and a striker immediately.  Johnson for right wing.

Well last year he scored something like 24 goals and f*ck knows how many assists to Torres? That wasn't even 10 months ago he was on that kind of form. Another arguement could be that since 05', the overall quality of the side had improved as much that Gerrard's contributions were less noticeable.

Team is getting worse than a few seasons back though IMO. Can't believe we've lost players like Crouch, Bellamy, Finnan, Alonso, Garcia, Riise etc.

Postby red till i die!! » Thu Mar 25, 2010 4:28 pm

ok so this season hasnt been the best for stevie.
he's had injuries, struggled to regain fitness after them and hasnt being banging goals in to beat the band.
he wont make it into the top 5 best midfielders this year but to say or imply that he is finished is a fecking joke.
at 29 he has plenty to offer us for at least another 4 years.
no doubt if england have a good wc gerrard will be at the heart of it and should he decide to leave in the summer he will have his pick of top european clubs to chose from.
i for one dont doubt he's anywhere near finished, just having a bad season thats all.

True story, this: I remember back when we signed said players and superstars like Crouch, Bellamy etc, the list goes on, and the moans and groans could be heard from many a Red all over, believing that such a player is not good enough for this club. I was in agreement with them. Bellamy likes to crack players with golf clubs, as well as get caught offside about 20 times in a game. Crouch couldn't head a ball for f*ck and had no pace, then we got Torres, and, well...enough said there. Alonso was regretable and Riise and Finnan were at the point where it was either hang onto something that was in decline, or make the most of it and cash in. Garcia wanted to go home. Players do come and go, but what you can't say that any of these players, save for Alonso, is a better option in our first 11 than what we currently have. Sure, you could look to the fringe players and compare and even complain that they are better options, but would the players you stated be willing to take their place on the bench? History dictates and proved that the answer is no.

Torres is right in that we eed top class players. We should sign 2 this year for a combined 70m. I dont care if the overall squad gets weaker, we just need top class players who can create and score goals. If David Villa was our only signing i'd take that but would love to see Michael Johnson and C Cole sign for approx 30m. We need ATLEAST 1 landmark signing this year. We will 100% get someone worth £30m+ but who will that be? Imo i think Rafa will sign som1 big who's good at getting forward i.e Silva etc

The only problem that I have with Gerrard is that he cannot consistently perform for a full season.  He's a great player, there's no doubt about that, but I worry that he's becoming more inconsistent every season.  He sort of reminds me of Guti from Madrid, he can be great in one game and be absolutely anonymous in the next.  So we can forget about winning the league, unless Torres gets over his injuries and Gerrard manages to perform consistently for a whole season.
