nah i say keep kewell, hes just showing us his true self, gonzalez may well take his place when he arrives if he turns out to be as good as he is in spain over here but still we will then have kewell as back up on the left wing, we need 2 quality  players in each position to challenge

I think fans were fickle, they hated him Carling Cup final, CL Final, and then he produces the goods for 10-15 games and we love him agin.  He is a crock and we should get rid while he is still going.  He is like an old car.

I'd like to see how far people agree with me, that despite some good performances, he isn't what we want.

I do mate. If you wanna find out just look at any clips of the lad. And watch a re-run of the Sociedad Madrid game. he ran the show.

In the Spanish league though, I am very excited about Gonzales but I've learned never to judge how a player will play for us untill I see them in the red shirt. If we sell Kewell Gonzales will have more pressure and expectation, and we will need him to stay injury free. On the other hand we could get Kewell to do a one year extension, if he has a good season we either have a player worth keeping or a player worth 6-8m.

The other possibility is Kewell sets the World Cup alight, and that could change things either way.

Kewell has made a huge contribution to the squad since Christmas, to sell him now after all this time of injuries and frustration is incredibly stupid.

Yes Gonzales has been on fire in Spain, but we'll see how he settles in England. We're going to need a bit more competition next season and we might have another season of a fixture pile up. Kewell can also play behind the striker so there will be a place for him in the squad

I've seen all the games of Liverpool this season, except the last one that I still haven't downloaded. Trust me, I knew Alonso was going to be an impact in England (1) although many of you were sceptical. I know Gonzalez will be an impact in England. He's been bloody important for us aswell today (I must complete the update in the proper thread tomorrow). He's more than pace, he's very good on set pieces. He has a terrible long shooting. He has everything to tryumph up there.

(1) I still remember what I posted here "he masters long balls, he won't score a bunch of goals but definitely will make the team play well, he's a great director" (or something) -- I was answered back "Good long balls? have you heard of Gerrard, mate? we already have that here" :)

(2) Real Sociedad is mathematically out of relegation, 40 consecutives years in primera!!! and we must thank Liverpool big deal.

We need depth and versatility in the squad, and Kewell brings that.

He also brings a hell of a lot of talent and class, and although he's had the odd anonymous game, for at least 2/3 of the season he's been one of our top performers.

Sod the paper talk, sod the naysayers...he's back, and anyone who thinks shipping him out would be a good plan needs to get a clue, regardless of who we're bringing in. Saying he should leave because Gonzalez looks alright is like saying Carragher should leave cos this Paletta's not too bad. Ridiculous notion. :D

Kewell has shown this season why Benitez rates him so highly. He's shown skill, he's regained a lot of his pace, and his final balls, which were somewhat erratic even during his Leeds tenure, have been consistent, dangerous, and a welcome source of ammunition for the forwards. The other thing that has impressed me with Kewell is his team spirit and heart for the club - everytime there's a confrontation, he's in the thick of it sticking up for the other players. When you think about the way a lot of fans were quite vociferous in their condemnation of him after the Champion's League final, it would have been very easy for his love of the club to wane. He's fought the whole season - first back to match fitness, then into first team contention, and then for a regular spot. He also blatantly fouled Gary Neville, and followed it up by giving the hideously ugly twunt bit of verbal - that raised my market estimate of him by a good couple of million.

Imagine what he's going to be able to do next season, if he gets a completely injury-free pre-season behind him and with none of the pressure that was on him after last year.

He's proven Premiership quality. He's shown that not only can he do a job for us, he can do a bloody good one. The rumour that he is going to be sold really isn't worth the wear and tear on the old eardrums. I'm optimistic about Gonzalez. But the fact remains that he's never played in the Premiership. He may not be able to adapt. He may flounder in the very fast-paced physical league we have here. I doubt he'll have trouble adapting, but he might. And if he does, what options are we left with? None as good as Kewell, I'll tell you that.

Benitez has probably learned from the disappointing form of Morientes over here that sometimes it can happen. It's not down to a lack of playing ability, as we all know Moro has that in bucketloads. It's not down to a lack of hard work. But sometimes, things just don't click.

And for me, Benitez would have to be stark staring mad to get rid of one of the Premiership's finest left wingers for pocket change and gamble the balance of the team on Gonzales making an immediate impact.

Whether Gonzalez is a better player is up to him, but Rafa would be mad to play Kewell anywhere but out on the left. He'll go missing just like in the numerous times Houllier tried it.

Out there, he's dangerous running at players, and now that he's getting some of his pace and fitness back, he's showing it and will continue to do so. I'd hang onto him, I get the feeling he's over the worst of his injuries for now. Especially now he knows what the problem is and the lack of strength that was there - he'll be better managed.

rafa wouldn't have even the tiniest difficulty (including in terms of assumably proper price) to sell him,  many clubs would want him. you don't need to hang up phone to sell him, just shout it through the sky and dozens of clubs will keep you busy at the phone. but what is the fookin point in selling him especially when some times back we had been whinging in needs of decent winger. and now we have him already safely in our hands and some posters talking about selling him?

it's a bloody madness!

I think the reason Gonzalez was brought to Liverpool was mainly to provide cover for Kewell's unbelievable knack of getting injured.

Maybe now, I do get a smaller idea as to why Zenden was brought to Anfield.

Zenden is obviously a squad player.

In my opinion, Kewell would still be the first choice left winger next season. Now, in the very likely event that Kewell would get injured, Gonzalez would obviously take his role. This is where Zenden comes in. He would probably be the last cover we have for left midfield, barring instances where Rafa would choose to push Riise further upfield and let Traore or Warnock handle left-back. Zenden could also play in central midfield which gives us ample cover in those areas. The sense in having Zenden in the squad is to ensure that the squad would not be in too much trouble if we encounter an injury-crisis, or a less than desirable number of suspensions. (It happens..)

The more I think of it, we seem to already have a more than capable bench who can make a sound impact during a game.

Hamman, Zenden, Dudek, Garcia, Cisse, Crouch, Fowler, Kromkamp and I'm sure that there are a couple of names I'm missing.

Having said that, I'll echo another point that has been thrown around a billion times in this forum.

Just a striker and a winger Rafa.

Just a striker and a winger.
