He has proven he can perform at the top end of the Premiership (although he was inconsistent) and is not playing much at Barcelona so a loan deal until the end of the season might be on.

Also, he is the style of striker (or second striker) that would work well with Torres. You don’t find him occupying the box much, he holds his position between the half line and the box well. He is always there to pick the ball up “in-between the lines” and has the technique and vision to create chances.

It sound like there is very little cash to spend but we probably wouldn’t want him on a permanent basis anyway because he is inconsistent and apparently he doesn’t have the best life style (gambling, late nights, etc).

A loan deal until the end of the season could prove to an astute bit of business and be beneficial for us, the player and Barcelona.

Not sure about that.  His played a fair bit this year and is really playing his part in the great season Barca are having.

i dont if it's Rafa fault but can someone tell me why a lot of good strikers signed for us became bad and when i got sold they play excellently again?
And to me, keane is still a very good player who happens not to perform at his best now. There must be something wrong with motivational side of our manager or something..

I wouldnt say most are playing excellent, Crouch and Owen are exceptions but they both wanted to leave.

would like to include anelka and marientes i have to say they are playing fairly decent. Anelka was on loan with us so shouldnt really be considered, he played 13 games and notched 4 goals. Even though he is le sulk i wanted him to stay because i still regard him as a good striker.

Given his record after he left us shows what his capable of...
man city - 87 - 38 goals
bolton   -  53 - 21 goals
chelsea -  29 - 15 goals

He is a decent striker indeed one must admit!!

As for our fella morientes i really dont know what happend to him when he played for us. What a talent which couldnt figure his way through our team and system. He scored 8 goals in 41  apps.
when he left for valencia his played fairly decent there 19 goals in 52 apps.

@Madmax Anelka didnt play under Benitez
@SupitsJonF Crouch, Cisse and Owen scored 8 so far this season. Obviously they have different roles now with their respective clubs but clearly they are performing at the level they are expected. Maybe "excellent" is a strong adjective but definitely not under performing
We don't need new strikers imho. Kuyt and Keane can always score as long as there is good service which is laking at the moment. We need classy wingers. Looks like i just repeat what i said 5 years ago :no

There's something wrong with Keane (in his head of course). Maybe it's because of confidence, not happy with certain things etc. Anyway, i still think of him as a really good striker. By the way, " Form Is Temporary, Class Is Permanent ".

It is, and if you played him in every game for the rest of the season I've no doubt that sooner or later he'd hit form. The trouble is, we haven't got the time to wait for him to regain form right now. We are shipping points quicker than something which ships points quite quickly, and my contention is that Keane isn't in a fit state to be our 2nd best striker right now.

Yes mick i agree with you. But we should continue using him , who knows next game or two he'll gonna be the old Keane back. The main problem , i think, is that he's not happy with the rotation or because of being left out in certain games i.e stoke - when we 're in a dire need of a goal etc. Do we need to sign a new striker? well, i guess so but still we need to play Keane week in, week out.

Reira needs to keep his mouth shut aswell, he has said in all the papers this morning that Man u are lucky with their last minute goals while we conceed in the final minutes.

Thats not luck mate thats what you call going for the jugular leaving 2 strikers on and bringing on two more and throwing the kitchen sink at the other team.

Instead Rafa takes off two strikers those three players that marked Torres then push up to get an equalizer, instead of bringing on Babel a player with pace he moves Duck Kite upfront who could still be playing now but would still not score.

Because of this dont get beat mentality its going to cost us in the end, what has changed since earlier in the season? Getting beat by City and Wigan and scoring 3 goals to win both fixtures going for the jugular instead Rafa has reverted to his old ways and cautious mentality instead of going all out to win.

Ofcourse the players have to take responsibilty aswell it isnt all Rafas fault they just think Gerrard will get us out of the sh!t so dont pull their tripe and help out.

We are 3 points ahead of Villa but are joint top and these draws have to come to a halt because these are doing the damage its ok for people to say yer but we are still unbeaten at home for over a year.

Just imagine them draws we have had this season where turned into wins we would be atleast 9 points clear by now.
Its no one elses fault but our own and should we finish 3rd or 4th again this season we will have blown the best chance we have ever had of winning the league and it will be a very bitter pill to swallow.

Yeah , talking about draws, that worries me too.  By the way, like the 'Duck kite' thing.  :D

Yep after Rafa's outburst followed by two unconvincing draws, and Riera's words (if he actually said them) we are running the risk of us making ourselves look a little silly.

I said at the time of Rafa's press conference that I had no problem with what he said, nor the timing of it. I did also say that as the victor writes the history books, time will tell whether it looks like being the moment when we "lost it" or whether it'll be the moment we cranked up the pressure on the Mancs.

Unfortunately, at the moment it doesn't look like it's done us any particular favours to be charitable, and they've won every game since.

We need to just knuckle down now I reckon. If the press say we're out of it then lovely. Lets leave all talk of what Ferguson gets up to to other people now, we've made our point. Lets leave all contract talk either behind closed doors or until the end of the season, and lets keep our thoughts on "luck" to ourselves.

We have other things to worry about. we are currently three points ahead of Aston Villa having played the same number of games. Before we go to Wigan on the Wednesday after the Everton game, they go to Pompey. Then while we are playing Chelsea at Home, they are at Home to Wigan.

It's not overly doomy and gloomy to be considering the scenario that our aspirations could be about to dramatically alter if we don't start winning matches soon. With that in mind, I'd be worrying about ourselves from now on.

Right he said them, he should keep his thoughts to himelf then agreed Lynds. I wasn't doubting that you had a quote by the way, I was just wondering whether the press had made it up or taaken advantage of his lack of English (if indeed he has a lack, I've never heard him talk).

All at the club should just get their nut down now, because the wheels are starting to wobble a bit and if they don't right themselves soon, we could be in fairly deep sh!te fairly quickly.
