Gerrard on left

Sven says he will probably play Gerrard on the left in Euro 2004 as its a problem position.

I see this as a total waste of his talent, im sure the teams we play will be happy with this news. a man with such talent int he centre will be wasted out there

i remember when stevie G was played as right back in the past. Come on guys, the guy could play in goal and would still be the best player on the pitch. The england set up isn't that rigid, sow herever he starts hes gonna move around anyways

Dawson i disagree completely.

They should play a flat 4-4-2 and play the correct players in the correct positions.

Englands best team:

               Owen     Rooney

   Barry     Scholes   Gerrard     Beckham

    Cole    Campbell  Ferdinand  Johnson

                      Robinson

I'd go with either Terry or Woodgate with Campbell in the centre for the championships, maybe  Gary Neville or Carragher at right back depending on the game. Heskey could start ahead of Rooney.

Barry, Gerrard, Scholes, Beckham, Owen, Ferdinand and Campbell should be definate starters when available.

None of this mickey mouse diamond sh##e and playing Beckham in the middle and Stevey on the left. Best system, best players in those positions. Sorted.

Alan Thompson coold play on the left as he is naturally a left-sided player, but is he really good enough and he doesn't have the international experience to throw him in at the deep end against France.

I don't care how England do but I think you'd be better off having an average player who is a leftie playing left wing, rather than a good player who has to turn in because he has no left foot.

Playing Gerrard anywhere but the middle is insane, the wing is for pussies like Beckham not hardguys like Gerrard, Keane, Viera etc

Totally agree, what a waste to play Stevie G on the left and have a second choice centre mid ie Lampard or Butt etc. You would rather have an OK player on the left than play one of the best out of position and ok in the middle.

:)  gerrard on the left?!? oh yeah!!!

MY english squad (at least against us ...):

    Campbell   Neville  Carra   Heskey

Gerrard   Campbell  Ferdinand   Cole    Robinson

              Owen        Rooney

                   Beckham (GK)

think i'll send this list to sven (maybe i'll add some swiss chocolat to 'convince' him ...  :;):  !!), like this, switzerland had at least a (very) small chance to win ...

Playing Gerrard on the left is nearly as bad as putting somebody like heskey there.
Wait a minute those 2 dummies houllier and erikson have both done that and yet they both have great well paid jobs.
Playing players out of position just doesnt work and should only happen in emergencies and yet these 2 very over rated managers some how get away with it time and time again.
Smith to Shankly:My thigh is a bit sore, but I think I could play.
Shankly to Fagan:Tell him,Joe.He has got no chance of playing.
Smith to Fagan:Tell him to sod off.It is not his leg,it's mine.
Shankly to Smith:Oh no son.You are wrong, son. It is not your leg.
It is Liverpool Football Club's leg.

james

         g neville         terry           campbell           cole

                                       butt

                        beckham               gerrard

                                     scholes

                        owen                    rooney

this is the team that will start against france if fit imo. gerrard would be on the left of a diamond, not exactly consigned to the left flank. ashley cole can provide width down that flank. it's the only realistic place for gerrard to play because he'd be wasted in butt's position.

That looks about right mate but I'd play Lampard instead of Scholes. His form for Man yoo has been below par this season and his form has been below par for england since the play off with Scotland for Euro 2000. ( i think it was Euro 2000 )
