on form you would play lampard but there's a thing in football known as SENTIMENT. that is why scholes will play instead of lampard in my opinion. every manager has it. that is why heskey and kewell have regularly been persevered with this season, even when they've been sh#te.

There is a saying, form is temporary, class is permenant.

Form only takes one goal, one tackle, one surge of confidence to change. Ability takes years. Players who are off form such as Scholes still have tremendous ability. He has alot more than Lampard and therefore should play.

England shouldn't play this shitty diamond formation formation either. They won't win ****** all with it.

stu, if you're telling me that lampard isn't a class player you need your eyes tested. he's been outstanding for two years. he's just unfortunate he's got scholes and gerrard (who are both world class) ahead of him.

i don't like the diamond formation either but it has to be used considering we have no natural left sided midfielder who eriksson is confident in.

form maybe temporary, but you can't afford to wait on it all turning round in a knock competition. Stick with some one in the league fair play but a slip up in the Euro's would see us out after just two games.

Lampard is a quality player.

But he's not good enough. He's certainly not class. Lampard is a quality player playing his best football in an excellent side.

Scholes is a class above Lampard. He's a better passer, far superior technically, has more aggression and tenacity, better vision, scores more goals and before you start Lampard has hit 15 once.

Danny Murphy would have been getting the same praise if you put him in a good side with last seasons form. He's just a good player playing his best in a decent team.

In terms of ability Cole should be picked ahead of him.

The only things Lampard has which is outstanding as an attribute are his work rate and determination. Nothing else in his game is class.

Englands midfield should be:

Barry, Scholes, Gerrard, Beckham

Sam Allardyce isn't the only one who wonders what Barry has to do to get into the england side.

gareth barry is superb. i've said for over a year that he should be in the england side. he was in the squad before eriksson arrived but since then hasn't had a look in. the guy is naturally left footed ffs. if he played for manure or arsenal he'd walk in the squad.
