How serious is a hair line fracture ?

And would he be playing through any kind of pain ?

From what I know, a Hairline is the least serious fracture. It just depends on where it is, really. I've broken my big toe playing before, and I played with it afterwards for several weeks without and kind of pain killer. It's painful as f*ck, but you can still play. If it's in multiple places, though, then forget about it. The bone is weakened and you run the risk of f*cking your foot up on a more permanant basis.

Gerrard will be in pain, but I'm sure they'll freeze it or something. If I can play with a broken big toe, I'm sure he can too.

I'd second that - if it's the big toe, it's more of an issue than if it's one of the tiddlers. Either way, if they're saying he's alright to play on Sunday with it, it's not too serious. Get Chelsea out of the way and then he's got a couple of weeks to get right again.

To clarify, a hairline fracture isn't actually a break. It's actually termed as an incomplete fracture, and is basically just a very small crack or a chip in the bone. The recovery time is a fraction of that of a full-blown fracture or break.

Just found out about Stevie Gs toe being broken.  Gutted about that, just hope that his toe doesn't sustain any further injury  if he plays against Cheeski.

they can be very painful ..... i wonder how much swelling and brusing has occurred on and around his toe as this would cause much discomfort and pain and hinder his running capacity

I think he will be o.k to play they will probabley just give him a injection before the game and maybe at half time if he needs it , it sounds similar to what Lampard has done and lets face it if he can carry his fat round the pitch on a fractured toe then Gerrard, who has to be at least 10 stone lighter, should be o.k

Phil thompson played without a toe on one foot. Gerrard can play with one that has a hairline fracture.

From watching the tackle against Toulouse I'm pretty sure it was his left foot.

Hope it's not that serious. A little concerned that the dirty b@stards at Chelsea will try to take him out for longer by targeting the injured foot. Gerrard still remains the most important, key player that we have... despite the summer spending spree.

Having said that, it'll be pretty interesting to see Masch and Alonso in the middle. With Mash taking the holding role, it should be interesting to see Alonso pull the strings from a slightly more advanced role than that in which we usually see him. With proper wingers, I feel that this combination would work well. Wouldn't want to experiment with that against Chelsea though. We are off to a good start for the 1st time in a long while and theres no sense in jeopardizing the momentum (albeit slight) that we've built, so I guess I'd risk Gerrard too.

As for England..... to hell with McLaren's problems..... it's only a only damn friendly anyway.....
