the problem with fans polls, is a lot of the time, the younger fans vote for their favourite player rather than the player who has had the best season. i mean carra got into the final 3 for the football writers award so for gerrard to beat him is simply ridiculous.

Its the same syndrome where people in asia (who know about as much football as we do Sumo) think that Beckham is the best player in the world and clowns like the madrid president by famous players and get rid of guys like Makele.

To be honest, that will suit Jamie. We all know hes been a best player by more than a country mile this season, but the player himself likes to keep out of the limelight - even though he deserves to be drenched in it. If approached about this, I would bet my balls he would shrug it off and say it means nothing.

I'm from Hong Kong and I 'm offended by your statement about Asian people who know nothing about football. Asian people love football just as much. In fact, it is the number one sports in almost every Asian countries. Most of them follow football not just within their country. They follow EPL, the Spanish League, the Italian league and Bundesliga as well. They might know even more than you do. I think its funny that you are making a fool of yourself by making the accusation on Asian while you know nothing about them. How wise of you!

So now, Back to the topic, I think the poll is not a reflection of who is the best player. When you ask people to vote, they obviously will vote for someone they know. SG is the most famous of the bunch and its as simple as that. Its like the All Star Game in NBA or MLB where fans get to vote for their favourite player. The players selected are not always the best players.

i would give Risse the nod over Finnan but only just. I was never a fan of Finnan's when we signed him and thought we should have sold him at the end of last season, i'm glad i'm eating my humble pie as he's having a fantastic season!!

i agree. those were our 5 best players this season. Although,  teletexts poll has 5 nominees and does not include finnan or alonso. instead, it has gerrard and biscan
