i know this is a name that most of us wont remember or recognise, but he still one of us

Liverpoolfc.tv are sad to report the death of former Reds goalkeeper Bert Slater.
Slater, who enjoyed three years at Anfield in the late fifties/early sixties, passed away at the weekend, aged 70, after collapsing during a round of golf.

A Scottish Cup winner, he joined Liverpool in May 1959 from Falkirk, in an exchange deal with Tommy Younger and went on to make a total of 111 appearances for the club.

Standing at just five foot eight inches, Slater was rather small for a goalkeeper but kept goal for the first 29 games of the Second Division Championship winning campaign in 1961/62.

After losing his place to Jim Furnell he moved back to Scotland to play for Dundee, whom he helped reach the European Cup semi-final in 1963.

He later spent time with Watford, where he first got involved in coaching and on his retirement from the game became involved in a firm that developed and constructed golf courses.

Bert is survived by his wife Jean, two daughters and a son.

On behalf of everyone at Liverpool Football Club, Liverpoolfc.tv would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family at this sad time.

Maybe not a famous name, but part of Liverpool Football Club history nonetheless.

Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

I gotta say that playing for Liverpool and still playing golf until seventy years of age.. it sounds like he had a good life.
