For f**k sake wise up - Stop blaming the players

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I am as disappointed with the current team as anyone else but the truth is in the end its not their fault. Its the fault of Gerrard Houllier.  If he sends the youth team out to play against Man U and they get beat 20-0 do you blame them or Houllier.  Houllier picked and purchased the vast majority of the present squad if they are not up to scratch is that their fault. No Its the managers responsibility to buy and select the best possible players.  Those twho blame Owen are just ficklebuggers They forget how he single handedly won them match after match under Houllier.  Get off the Young man Back and target The ba#ta#d who has him and some other world class players playing with players who would get on a Sunday League team.  Biscan Was s##t today and cost the game but Houllier bought him selected him and as a result has lost match after match this year.  Leave the players alone and pick on Houllier.  He's to blamebecause hes not good enough for the job>

I always respect owen for winning singlehandledly winning us the 2001 FA Cup. But the fact is, he has lost some of his pace. His first touch is similar to heskey at the moment. The qualities that made him outstanding. You also have to judge players by their current ability not their past. If we keep Owen, just becos he scored all those goals in the past seasons, what kind of message are we sending to the players ? Play well 1 season and your future is assurred ?

And what kind of penalty is that. It looked like he was not trying to score.......

Owen's a legend who simply lacks the self believe at the moment.

He will be back... the same as always.

Biscan is poor. Riise should have come in at left back from the start. Diouf was none existant, Henchoz isn't and never will be a full back, Hamann has to do more, Heskey was none existant aswell, Hyypia still looks out of sorts and Owen should never take another penalty ever again.

I felt sorry for Stevey and Harry today as both were outstanding, Carra and Milan tried but the quality just wasn't there.

I can understand the frustration at the officials... two BLATENT handballs dismissed and the first goal was well offside but at the end of the day that was simply not good enough.

Results are what matters not performances. I'm p#ssed off Houllier has given in to the moaners who want pretty football. We don't have the players to play pretty. We have the playres to be effective and hard to beat though. Thats what we should be doing. He's gone down in my estimation today and he's certainly not helping his cause.

Things have to improve.

GH hasn't given in to the "moaners" because he still allows the worst penalty taker in football history to take the penalties,he continues to field players out of position and he plays Biscan in defence.

The so called fans on this forum are really p#ssing me off, there are too many ficklebuggers here.  Anyone who blames Michael Owen for our present failures is a joke, I'm so angry with this rubbish that I'm starting to think Stu_the _red is right and this forum has only got a load of whingers who know nothing what so ever about football.  Michael Owen is one of the finest footballers in world football, he's going through a bad patch, do you all forget how much this player has done for Liverpool, He has for almost three years carried the club on his back.  Gerrard has began to show his teeth this season but it was Owen that won you three trophies in one year.  I can't believe the s##t I've been hearing on this forum because like the ba#ta#d who wrote on the wall at Mellwood it all detracts from our greatest misery Gerrard Houllier.  The same ficklebuggers running Owen down will be the first a##holes on their feet when under a new manager and with an effective strike partner he starts destroying teams once again.  Houllier had these same people believing that Fowler was finished.  If anyone watched the ManC derby on Sunday you'd have seen this crock get back to his old ways.  Stop blaming the players its the idiot who selects them that's to blame.  Houllier told Owen he was the penalty taker, Owen is a goalscorer try to take the ball of any goalscorer even when their confidence is low.  I have heard the sh##e being pedaled on this forum and in the press before, Roy Keane is finished, Tony Adams is a donkey, Rio Ferdinand is not a centre halve, Chris sutton is a centre halve, Maradonna is Argentina 's only player and could'nt beat England on his own, the list goes on and on.  Michael Owen is actually just approaching what will be the finest years of his career.  So wise up!

Owzat: could you come up with Michael Owen's penalty stats?

From my recollection he has almost missed as many as he scored. Off the top of my head I can remember yesterdays miss against Southampton, the Pompey miss, a miss against Roma in the UEFA Cup at Anfield, and another miss against West Brom at Anfield last season.

There may be more but I can't remember just now.

Owen is a good player who can be great on his day. The blame should go to other players (Diouff, Heskey, Hamman etc) who don't chip in with goals when Owen is not scoring.

Penalty stats is one thing JBG but who tells him to take the penalties GH.  The best penalty taker in the current sqad is Hamman.  Owen is getting abused because he has missed penalties but its the idiot manager who has seen he's not confident that should change pen takers.  This to me is another example of GH being arogant and pig headed. But don't blame Owen just don't let him take them any more.  JBG my point is simple don't blame the monkey for not dancing the tune, Its the f##king Organ grinder that's to blame it him that's playing the wrong tune.

He has either missed 10 out of 23 or scored 10 out of 23. Either way, it's a shocking statistic. Why Houllier persists with Michael as penalty taker is beyond me. It's not really doing much for his confidence.

Owen has been a fantastic player who plays in a poor team and gets little service. No wonder he looks down in the dumps and unhappy with his game. He'd be banging in goals by the hatful at highbury or Stamford Bridge. I feel desperately sorry for the guy.

big al you can't claim that GH forces Owen to take the penalties. It was a responsibility that Michael took because he,in his own words a couple of years ago ,felt it was unfair that the forwards battling it out for premiership golden boot had an advantage of being penalty takers so he decided he would take them and seek the same advantage. The difference of course being Henry,Shearer,Beattie,Nistelrooy and co. were better at dispatching the spot-kick.Icertainly think Houllier should play the managers role and relieve Owen of the spot-kick duty but I don't he has the gallic balls to do it.

Are you saying that when they win and produce good results it`s GH`s "fault" ?
Doesn`t the players efforts matter at all? Is that what you`re saying, Big Al ? ???

Owen will never turn down the opportunity to try to score a goal.  Houllier has designated him as penalty taker.  forwards are like greyhounds chasing paper on a windy day.  If any forward ever openly admitted to not being confident with penalties he be laughed out of the dressing room, but don't take my word just ask one!.  If GH give the job to someone else I think Owen would brethe a sign of relief but he'll never say No I don't want to take them.  Any good manager would know this any one with afootball background would know this Houllier dosent because Houllier has'nt got a football background.  He dosent get angry because he dosent understand the passion and commitment he's never been on the field and has'nt the imagination to know the score.  Wenger has'nt played also but he has empathy with his players he understands because he is a practioner or the mind, he is intelligent enough to use his psycology background to assess the importance of football.   Don't get me wrong I only understood when it was too late for me.  I was 20 playing in a b division game when I hit a guy a cruncher.  The ball flew to my team mate who scored.  I got up leaving the guy rolling in pain, looked at my team mates and saw them say with their eyes where to f##k did that come from.  I realised there and then this is a simple game, I mean really really simple all the time I'd thought it was hard but it was'nt all I had to do was never give up, never let them settle, jump for everything and play the ball quickly, but most important of all I learned never to fear anyone even the 6ft 3 s##t brick house, if I played the game with no fear I'd be all right.  I,ve talked to a number of players and everyone  of them has experienced the same realisation.  The next match with no one near me I rupture my cruciate ligament.  Houllier could never have experienced this.

Ian Rush hated penalties. He freely admits he was terrified at taking the penalty in the European Cup Final and would never take a penalty again.Dalglish never took penalties, nor Roger Hunt.I doubt wether any of those players were laughed out of the dressing-room.

Maybe Stevie.G will have a word with the lad about giving up the job. I would like to see the captain take the penalties. If not then Kewell or Hamman.

Scottbot did you see the fear in Hamann's eyes when MISSED in the worthington cup final?

He's probably the last person i'd have.

I think its down to Owen's confidence. When he took that one against the argies he buried it in the top corner... he done it for his second Liverpool goal. The lad takes them now with fear. With penalties its about belief. I've never missed in a competative match, i scored one in a school cup final and i had to take the first in a shootout in a semi final for my old collage. I'm sure it has everything to do with me thinking i'm one of the best penalty takers outside pro-football rather than my technique (which is Zidane-esque anyways :D ).

now for al's post :D

The so called fans on this forum are really p#ssing me off, there are too many ficklebuggers here.  Anyone who blames Michael Owen for our present failures is a joke, I'm so angry with this rubbish that I'm starting to think Stu_the _red is right and this forum has only got a load of whingers who know nothing what so ever about football.  Michael Owen is one of the finest footballers in world football, he's going through a bad patch, do you all forget how much this player has done for Liverpool,

The first bit i totally agree 100%. One of the top 5 or 6 in the world. At his best he IS (FACT) unstoppable.

do you all forget how much this player has done for Liverpool, He has for almost three years carried the club on his back.  Gerrard has began to show his teeth this season but it was Owen that won you three trophies in one year.

Its a shame you don't think the same about Houllier for the time being at least.

Houllier had these same people believing that Fowler was finished.  If anyone watched the ManC derby on Sunday you'd have seen this crock get back to his old ways.

Fowler was never finished. Houllier didn't lead us to believe that. He was brilliant in the treble season. But the fact of the matter... AT THE TIME!!! Heskey and Owen was a better partnership and was the way forward. Anyone who tells you otherwise was simply talking sh##e.

With Owen, Fowler and the on form Heskey we had the perfect mix of strikers. The were all so different and all could have been used... but in all honesty a player of Fowlers quality should never be on the bench and thats why he was let go.

So wise up!

Roy Keane is past his best. He's not half the player he was however he's still a class act.

And i totally agree. Owen does look sh##e at the MOMENT!!! Lack of form and confidence. It won't be long before that returns. Even if its next season... as long as its for us i'm willing to wait because it will be worth it. Owen and Gerrard on form in all honesty is enough to make an average team into a class team.

Add to that Kewell, Hyypia.. the experience of Hamann, the ever improving Baros....
