When Pongolle returns from injury, do you think the he should be given a run in the first team to see how he does as last season i thought he was one of the most inproved players that we had and help kep us in the champions league??

What about Neil Mellor?

I dont think he should be a starter, he isn't really ready yet.
But i agree he made good progress last season and is a dangerous player to bring on late in the game. His pace would test any defender, but i'm not convinced at this moment that he would score enough goals.
I also like the lads commitment though, he works hard without the ball and doesn't shirk challenges...definately one to keep.

i thought Pongolle played very well last season before his injury, and hopefully he will continue to improve in the years to come, but if he wants to play up front in this team he really needs to work on his finishing wich is still well short of the required standard.

Both cannot make the grade. I think we should both lend them to a club in the premier. Our main goal is to win the league.

Mellor won't get a look in next season if he stays and chances are he'll be sold. WBA are apparently interested in him and I'd say the only thing holding back a transfer is his recovery from the bad injury he got earlier this season.

I think Pongolle will continue to be used a lot as a "super sub" but while he reminds me of Michael Owen in certain respects, if I was asked to say right here, right now whether he will make the grade at Liverpool I'd say no.

I like Pongolle, though.

Pongolle is good for backup, but he needs to bulk up a bit if he really wants to make his mark in the prem, he's not strong enough yet IMO

Worth holding keeping though

He is good when he comes of the bench. He could destroy any defence in the last 20 mins

He's improving all the time and maybe given a chance he could do well, i think give him another season to sharpen up his boots and he'll be a good player, has bags of pace and has shown alot of potential.

As for Mellor it would have been nice for another player to have come up through the ranks but just dont look like he will make the grade.

I don't think Mellor came up the ranks as such. He started out with Sheffield UTD (I think) before being released by them. He then had a trial at Man City which did not go well before getting a trial at Liverpool, who took him on. I don't think Mellor played in our youth team (correct me if I am wrong).

Not to sure of that myself but i know he has been with us since about 18 (maybe younger anyone know?), just know that he scored alot of goals in our reserve team of a number of seasons, hoping he could have done some of that in the full team, just dont look like he is.

I think we're just keeping Mellor because he helps to fulfill the new UEFA quota about domestic players.
