It was my first ever visit to Liverpool & to Anfield. I sat in the Main Stand end to the corner of Anfield Road end.

It was a mixed atmosphere & I could only hear the KOP very vocalistic. The Main & Centenary stands were very quiet. Middlesbrough fans were so vocal & hurling all kinds of verbal abuse towards the Main stand - our home fans just stood there taking all the abuse & did not react  - I managed to hurl verbal abuse but the Stewards were quick on their way to tell me not to provoke - . I was shocked to not hear a single "Youll Never Walk Alone" song being sung by any fans (during the whole of the game - except before kickoff) - expecially when Liverpool were comfortablely winning 2-0 as well.

I was in the Kop that day, the reason it was quiet is because it was boring for want of a better word.  You could still buy tickets on the day for that match, that hadn't happened in years.

We coasted that game and it summed up Houllier's philosophy and showed the limitations of our squad.  The one thing that sticks with me about that game was Danny Murphy running with the ball on a counter attack when we were 2-0 up, and instead of trying to go up and score, he kept the ball around the halfway line and then let the play catch up with him, then he played the ball back to our defence.

As Houllier famously once said, "We were leading 2-1. They even wanted to score a third goal, which is beyond me sometimes."

That sums Murphy up perfectly.

I went to every game an Anfield that season, and that back passing rubbish was rife throughout the whole team! even Stevie G was doing it! Hamann and the rest.

1982 liverpool 3 luton town 3. i was only 9 and just getting seriously into football. my cousin was a mad home and away supporter who was desperate for me to be a hatter. luton were excellent that day (paul walsh in particular) and had 3 different keepers if my memory serves me correct.

i think being in such a magnificent stadium was what 1st attracted me to the reds but when walshy went that sealed the deal and i went with him.

the first time i went to anfield my parents took me during the off season just to see the ground (there wasnt even a game on) we were over from Ireland on holidays in wales and i must have been about 12....Funnily enough what i remember most was how thouroughly decent and friendly scousers were....the first time i saw them play was in a pre-season game in Ireland after we had done the double in 1986 and i got my picture with the FA cup and the canon league trophy...and after the game My Granda spotted Bob Paisley in the team bus and he managed to get me his autograph....Its funny but I remember my Granda saying thats a great autograph to get....better than any player because Bob Paisley is always going to be a legend....It is funny because the longer time goes by the more I realise just how true that is. My first game at anfield was actually John Barnes' first home game in 1987, dont remember too much about the game other than Digger scoring a classic and John Aldridge scoring with a diving header....they were my two favorite players, I also remember shouting Hiyaaaa Brucie! at Bruce Grobbelaar during the game when Liverpool were attacking the Kop end and he looking over to see who was calling him! I have been over to Anfield quite a few times since and I can say that Liverpool is a great city, Scousers are great people and I can never understand why anyone would not want to support Liverpool FC!!!....Its funny I wouldnt normally want to bore anyone with my visits to Liverpool and Anfield but It is a nice thing to reminisce, Liverpool FC was a big part of my childhood and I genuinely feel priviledged to have been to Anfield and to call myself a Liverpool Fan......They are such a special club

You know, my first might well be next Saturday against Aston Villa, if i'm lucky enough to get tickets.

I really envy you lads who gets to watch our heroes in action. I've to travel half the globe for that... and i'm not even assured of a ticket yet.

Anyone nice enough to help with the tickets? I'll SURELY write in length about my first experience...

December 1st, 2002.

LFC Vs Manure.

Living in Israel doesn't give too many chances to see Liverpool play at Anfield ... It is easier to see the games in London (been at Stamford Bridge for the ECL 0-0 game) or in Istanbul  :buttrock

But back to that cold day in Liverpool.
Trafic was heavy, so we jumped from the taxi that took us from Manchester airport (we took the flight from London just for the game).

It was a noon game, but still, very cold out there ...
First half, no goals. Than Forelan scored his first Manure goal ever ... against us. Dudek just droped the ball ... easy goal.
Than Forelan scored his second.
Few minutes left and Hyypia scored at the kop end. And thats it ... we lost 2-1.

The taxi driver on the way back to Manchester airport was a big LFC fan also... he didn't believe that we came from Israel just for this game .... (well, it was a business trip to London for us, but who cares ....)

My first visit to Anfield was in 97 when we played Spurs,i have been a loyal red since 84 so this was an emotional time, sat in the main stand about 3/4 of way to the back i had a birdseye view of the kop in full song and i was welling up with emotion when YNWA came wafting over the P.A and my idols ran out.
We won the game 4-1 which was a great intro game and i remeber fondly Ginola kicking the ball away in a strop and us singing a amusing song wishing then Spurs manager good luck in his next post along the lines of "bye bye Francis-Francis bye bye !!"

My first Liverpool game was back in 86 at Selhurst -Charlton away,as a mark of how long ago it was king Kenny was still player manager !!,froze my nads off but loved every second of it,

I was about nine and went with my dad and brother on a coach full of very drunk rowdy men.  Couldnt believe the atmosphere around Anfield and when we got inside the stadium.....wow - takes your breath away.  Dad went to main stand and abandoned my brother and me in the kop!  Ending up sitting on top of a barrier so I could see the pitch.  I was hooked from this moment on.
Remember when I was 12 going to see the players arrive for training, met Bob Paisley, Ray Clemence (sat in his car while he signed my autograph book)and all others.  Phil Neal and Jimmy Case were my favourites back then.  Remember screaming like they were the Beatles while all other fans were calmly asking for autographs without making pratts of themselves.  Those were the days!!
Favourite player now is Luis Garcia  :bowdown

My first game was vs Middlesborough at Anfield on a wet tuesday night in I think November of 1977. My Dad was a red but wasn't that heavilly into football so no matter how much I pestered him he wouldn't take me. Step in my uncle Phil who performed the act of ultimate sacrifice that I will be indebted to him for, for the rest of my life. Phil is a dyed in the wool blue nose but still he agreed to take me.

So off we went in his double decker bus (yes BUS!), my uncle worked for the mersey bus service at the time and picked me up at the end of his shift. I remember thinking how funny it was driving past these packed bus stops with people expecting us to stop only to see us fly by.

We got to the game and he explained to me why he couldn't bring himself to take me in the famous kop, what with being a devout bitter 'an all, so he took me in the Annie road instead. If I'm honest it was a bit of a dog of a game. A scrappy 1-1 draw in the pouring rain on a muddy pitch against a decidedly average 'Boro side containing a certain Mr G Souness. That didn't matter though I was completely enveloped by the romance and spectacle of my first trip to Anfield, I was hooked.

Uncle Phil tried many times throughout subsequent years to convert me to the dark side and join him at Goodison but it could and would never have happened. Once a red always a red they say, once Liverpool are in your heart, they never leave! :bowdown

It was a second division game V Scunthorpe United 1956 the game was played on a Wednesday evening I still have the programme somewhere. The ground was not a bit like it is today but somehow even then it had a unique atmosphere and I was hooked. Some of the players that where playing that evening Tommy Younger was in goal,a young Jimmmy Melia was number 10,Dick White centre half, and the twilight years of Bill Liddell at number 7 and our only English International at the time Alan A'court. We have come a long way since then and may it continue.
