EVERTON VS LIVERPOOL - Countdown to the woodison derby

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

They are only smiling for a short while, and still have to come to us and Im sure will get many a pasting this season.

We just struggle to score, and put teams away convincingly. We seem to have to churn out a result, and make hard work of it.
Something fundamentally wrong there.

Im not that fussed. But I dont want to watch in Horror as Rafa changes the team for PSV, then changes in again for Chelsea!
Please Rafa, stick with 9 Core players will you.

We have to put this right, and that's by taking 3 points at Stamford Bridge.

Then Chelski will have lost one also!

Already 4 points dropped. Will we do better than last season's 82 point total?

talk of the title challenge being over is complete nonsense. we're more than capable of beating chelsea next week as we've proved the last two times we've played them. if we beat chelsea next sunday (which won't be easy i admit) and then win our game in hand against newcastle the following wednesday, well be above chelsea in the league.

RIISE OUT OF PSV CLASH
Steve Hunter 09 September 2006
John Arne Riise has been ruled out of Liverpool's next two matches against PSV Eindhoven and Chelsea after suffering a reoccurrence of his ankle injury.
The Norwegian international was carried off the field during the 3-0 Merseyside derby defeat by Everton, and Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez confirmed it was the same injury that he got on the opening day of the season at Sheffield United.

Riise had only just returned from torn lateral ligaments in his left ankle and he now faces another spell on the sidelines.

"It's not serious but John will be out for the next 10 to 15 days," confirmed Benitez.

I am just glad its not more serious I expected 4-6 weeks.

i watched united earlier on and to be honest spurs should have at least got a draw, they missed two absolute sitters and the goal they conceded was a howler by robinson imo.
chelsea aren`t ripping up tree`s either, we were out of it last year because chelsea set such a pace that it was almost impossible to catch up.
whoever wins the league this year, i doubt they will amass the total chelsea got last year. we are still in it.

But they still won, they arent playing too well but they both still won their match that is the key.

Man u or chelsea play badly and they get a 1-0 win. We play badly and we lose 3-0..and we didnt even play that badly today..that just makes it even worse

ok is doesnt make it any easier to swallow but the scoreline flattered them, i dont even remember them attacking in the second half untill we went down to 10 men.

We`ll take it on the chin and get on with it.

anyone got any news on Bellamy, i heard a rumour he had a bust up with Benitez because he played in the wales game against Brazil, can anyone confirm or deny this.

Hi All'

I'm not sure we should start worring just yet we started last season very similar to this so far and finished very strong and not to far behind Chelski.

Yes it dents the confidence but like i see put often in post

Too right.  We lose and everyone puts the boot in about Rafa's team selection as though it's bloody obvious to each and every person except Rafa who should play each game.  Check the first 20 pages of the thread people--how many posters put up a duplicate starting 11?  None of us know who are "core starters" should be yet so don't take the p!ss.

FFS we lost at Goodison two seasons ago and people were all over Rafa, saying he didn't understand how to pick a team for the blood and thunder of the derby.  What'd he do?  Win every derby since till today.   Who'd he put out today?  A team full of experienced, mostly-English players--including all of his Scouse players bar Warnock--who know what the derby's about.  Robbie's record in derby matches is outstanding and Crouch is the world's in-form striker.  How do you argue with that?  Stevie was fantastic on the right for England over the last week and playing him out there got Momo and Xabi into the line-up.  Garcia always gets the stick but the fickle-fan brigade seems to have forgotten he scored a plum of a goal in the last derby.  At the back, how the fuck do you argue with Finnan, Carragher and Hyypia in a derby?  As for Aurelio, I don't think Riise was quite fit (neither was Carra TBH) and Rafa didn't want to gamble with him.  Besides, I thought Aurelio battled hard.  And, FFS, people, after the season Reina put in for us last season, how can anyone be calling for him to be dropped after 2 mistakes.  Have you forgotten what Dudek's like in games like this?

Unbelievable. :no

It's not right to slate other posters for being unhappy and expressing it.

Why is wrong to question Rafa's selctions, is he God or something?

It's a free opinion world, and it is slapping you in the face the best 11.

If it aint broke , don't fix it.

Well said. Bad bob

Maybe pride is clouding peoples views a bit on this one and the thought we would fly out of the blocks and be up thereleading the way from the start of the season. I feel that even though it has been a long barron spell without winning the big one (EPL) every single team in the land gets more from beating Liverpool than anyother team in the land.
No-one should have thought it would be easy and today has proved that. come on guys heads up and onward and upwards.

A typical response by some to a poor result !

You simply can't sack the whole squad based on their presumed lack of passion for the club so lets try and analyse where it went so badly wrong shall we !

Carra made an emotional decision when asked if he was fit cos it was patently obvious he wasn't !!!!! Fowler looks a yard off the pace and did nothing all game. Alonso isn out of form and it showed today !

Rafa has to take some responsibility here. He bought two natural wingers over the summer in Gonnzales and Pennant but started with neither. Pennant had 20 mins when the game was already lost and Gonzales didn't even make the bench ! He also chose to leave out the ideal striker for a difficult away trip in Bellamy who is a downright pest and chases lost causes. I'll bet my mortgage he plays Bellamy on Tuesday when we face a tricky away trip to PSV who like Everton are functional and physical.

Had he started with two NATURAL wingers and left Alonso who is in poor form on the bench then Gerrard and Sissoko in midfield would have been more than enough to cope with the hustle and bustle. Everton are not a good side in terms of ability but they were allowed to look a lot better because LFC didn't pass, dominate midfield or battle with any great conviction.

Despite this we had far the greater chances and a couple of penalty appeals.

I always try to be fair and balanced in my approach whether we win, lose or draw. I suggest some people on here do the same !
