Eto'o in the summer?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Fair point Lando. But i have to disagree. We weren't that far off winning title with evans. Pushed United close and so our team in the league was just as successful and houlliers.

Maybe, that achievement was down to a player who scored goals at vital times for us. I ain't knocking robbie by the way. My first post on this topic was mrerly about who we should get and i reasoned that owen might be a viable option because when fit still scores an abundance of goals. Which we at the mo are clearly not.

To say Owen is just a pace merchant i think is clearly wrong. Cisse, huckerby, Baros etc they are pace merchants. Owen could deliver at the end and also create. He used to pull wide and work the channels well, which created for Heskey.

Honestly though, in 1999 if Madrid had come in for fowler do you think he would of said yes? I'm certain he would. Hindsight is great but we dont possess it. Owen wanted to come back last year more than ever but knew that madrid would not accept our offer after newcastle's ludicrous bid.

His hands were tied then, due to world cup etc.

I'd like to think that if he came back every liverpool fan would forgive him and let him do what he does best and thats score.

We shd go for Miroslav Klose or David Villa.... :buttrock

Yup, i guess we should go for klose or Villa.

As for Eto...just worried that he would ruin the team morale with his 'ego'. So, i would say NO to him...but if Rafa manage to sign him, what can i say.. :)

Klose did not score for the last 3 months or so  :no

I feel Eto'o would be a bad fit for the team. He would want to start every game and expect to be treated like a superstar. See how much fuss he created when he came back from injury? I would rather have solid hardworkers like Kuyt, who give their all each game for the team

We are not replacing Kuyt with Eto'o so what's the problem?

Point is, why not have 2 Kuyt-attitude type of players? I don't think Eto'o attitude is right for LFC

The thing is, though; he would need to prove his fitness at the barcodes before we'd even contemplate re-signing him.

He's been out for virtually an entire season with a rupture to his anterior cruciate ligament. That's part of the injury Robbie sustained, and we know what it did to him. Medicine is more advanced now, but he's still been out a heck of a time.

I genuinely do wonder if he will be the same player again.

Fact is, most players who have that kind of injury never regain their best form.

Mr Henrik Larsson at Celtic came back from a big injury...

But that being said, I don't think Owen will fit into the style of play we have. As a focus on our attack he did well, and even watching some Madrid games, when he was on the field instead of warming up the bench, they went to him as the focus of their attacks as well.

He doesn't contribute to the team as a whole, but played to his strengths he will score - but I don't think we want to be a one-trick pony type of a team.

With all due respect to Henrik, although his injury was more shocking (and no doubt more painful), broken bones are by the by much easier to heal than ligaments.

Without wishing to sound condescending, it's a much more serious injury than many people (not necessarily yourself) realise:

Yeah too right Lando. Joint injuries screw you up for life. Even minor ones like just rolling an ankle - it's never the same again.

Didn't read your post properly - ie the "that KIND of injury" :P

Not sure about Eto'o

May be asking for too much.

I wonder if a more economical option exists.

I think we also need to add some "steel" players to the squad too. Some leg crunchers.

Sometimes we get out-muscled.

What would be so wrong with one of the best strikers in the world wanting to start every game if fit. Eto'o would probably work harder for the team than any striker currently on Liverpools books.

apparently not, kuyt appeared to be everywhere in the second leg
