Embarassing results in cl, very nearly! - Are we a one-trick pony?

Nearly a 1-0 result versus the TNS. Stevie G, the driving force of the whole team does it near the end again.

the TNS players will go back to work tommorow, and read the back pages of the papers and laugh and joke with thier mates that they held us to modet scores! almost embarassingly modest!

Are we the European champions or not? Man Utd won 0-6 tonight, against a league side. and we cant even beat this cr*p by more than 3.  and we had a full team! we need to get it together and soon!

Im not joking we should be caning these teams at least by 5. if that had be Arsenal or chelsea it would have been!
only Zenden so far, is the notable signing in my book.never mind this excuse thats it early, its not as if these players have never played the game before!

Im not impressed one bit. need more reinforcements.

we've squandered many a chance in both legs,,,, so what happened to the class of Cisse Morientes and le tallec? on their 60k a week?
relying on Stevie, our midfielder, to bang in 5 is a joke, its the strikers job!

Also, saying the TNS keeper did well? Do me a favour! the guy is probably a full time butcher, and will be slicing pork chops for the rest of the week!..its comical.

mind you, that saviour, the world player of the year elect is about to save us..............step forward peter crouch!

Hustler, it was treated like a training session.  Do I really need to point out to you that just because Man Sh!te beat whoever 6 - 0 that it actually means ANYTHING??  It means fu*k all.  Who cares what they do?  They're beneath us in every possible way.

How long have you been on this forum in one form or another?  You're never happy lad, ever.  Have a bit of faith.

Were you moaning on May 25th?

You must have had a gripe about something, otherwise it just wouldn't be right.  What did you find wrong with that night?  I'm sure you just start these negative topics to cause a bit of annoyance.  You're too predictable.  :help  :help  :help

Alfonso, don't get too worked up.

There were a few notable performances, I liked what i saw from Cisse - he worked hard and even won some balls back by good tackling when he back tracked after losing possession.

Of course, Gerrard more than did his part in scoring 2 goals.

Overall, perhaps the lads were still a wee bit short of full fitness, well I am hoping that explains our lack of ability to put away the chances.

This is the real worrying part - it would seem that the main problem is putting the chances away. Le Tallec was very guilty of some woeful misses when the opportunities were quite clear cut. Is this again going to be the bane of our campaign this time around? Hamann's penalty was so casually struck that you'd wonder if complacency has began to creep into their minds - it is forgivable, given that Liverpool were already on a 4-0 aggregate and was playing the Welsh champions today. It would get very dangerous of we were to carry this attitude against more accomplished opposition.

Looking at the overall situation over the past 2 legs, it is little wonder that Gerrard may have been tempted to move away, because the team and especially the strikers really need to buck up and improve.

I wouldn't worry about the performance tonight, the players and Rafa realise that they don't need to push themselves so hard in only there 3rd or 4th game of the season.  We don't want to peak to soon and then lose in CL 3 qualifying round like Newcastle did last season.  Carry on the nice slow build up until the season starts and hopfully that CL game against the bitter blues ??

Also, looking at today's game and the Leverkusen match the other day, I may have realised something.

Cisse is very generous playing alongside Le Tellac. He squared to the youngster in and around the opposition penalty on many occassions but he is much more selfish (and gets critically and animatedly upset) when he plays with Baros (I have noticed in some of the games last season). Did any of you people noticed this? Or is it just a thing happening in these games which are not so critical (we were already 3-0 up against TNS) and the Leverkusen game was just like a practice?

It seems like Cisse clearly does not enjoy playing alongside Baros to me.

What a totally wide of the mark thread.

The squad has been training for 2 weeks, aren't sharp or in top physical condition yet still won 6-0 on aggregate against a team trying their hearts out and playing above themselves for most of the time over both legs, and who also had a keeper in inspirational form (apart from letting in gerrard's weak 2nd goal tonight).

Am I worried about the performance??  Not in the slightest.  We played some alright stuff at times for this stage of pre-season.  Zenden looks like he'll be an asset with the width he provides, Cisse continues to prove he's completely recovered from his leg break, the new keeper Reina has shown he has a commanding presence (despite not really being tested yet in shot stopping) and both Xabi and Stevie have been in great form despite probably not being in peak condition yet.

Most importantly we're in the next round without picking up any injuries having done a professional job.  If that worries anyone or doesn't satisfy anyone then theres something wrong IMO.

yes but, sharpness or not, these are training session opposition.
My point is, we missed many chances first leg, second leg too, and conisdering most of you in here rave about cisse and Morientes, they should be banging them in ,in these games.

Selling BAROS is a big joke , if you ask me, and Anthony Le tallec is an even bigger JOKE!.............

he squanders chances, poor control, and rafa fancies him! and kewell too it seems!

I will wait obviously, until the first 6 games or so of the Prem season  to give a more detailed criticism, esp. if baros has gone and we aint scoring!
