Firstley i dont know if he said this.
This shows what we already know as it is happening daily.
And for me it sucks. They don't care who we are or what our plans are. money money money. Liverpool FC means nothing to people like this. (again i don't know if it is true)
Wearing the Liverpool FC shirt is just a pay day.
I know it is the way football is now  but for someone to say it makes it hit home.
He is not a bad player and i know me being annoyed will not change anything, but my first thought was if all you came for was money - F Off i dont want you playing for my club.
I no money rules the world but if he said this for me he can F off. what do others think

I wouldn't read too much into it, at the end of the day how will the credit crunch ever effect a top professional player on 40k a week

Understand yer sentiment Dav, but if we only had players who were at LFC purely for the shirt we'd be playing in a sunday league.

Certainly the fella would have done better to just keep his gob shut.

thats not the point
if he said this, then basically he is saying all Liverpool FC is to him is a pay day. I'd sooner not know if this is the reason players sign for us.
But if he said it (i dont care if he is pele) i do not want this type of person playing for Liverpool FC

I chose to move abroad because it was the best financial offer.

Sounds like some naive, ill-advised comments with a bit possibly lost in translation.

I'm not so green as to think that money isn't a reason why players consider signing for us anymore - it's different to us, but to an Italian bloke, the name Liverpool is possibly not the lure we might like to think it is anymore.

If he earns his money and contributes then I'll have no complaints.

i don't see anything wrong there to be honest - all he says is that he came to liverpool because they offered him the most money. i'm sure that's been the case for a lot of our favourite players over the years.

I dont think he means for himself personally,he's hardly skint!
It seems to me that he is voicing his opinions on the future of the club with regards to the obvious problems with the Yanks due to the credit crunch!

Taken out of context by a shi'tty @rsed journo from sky!

I dunno - I'd have had a bit more respect for Lucas Neill if he'd have come out and said something like "I had offers from Liverpool and West Ham, but West Ham guaranteed me first team football and offered me considerably more money, which is what's important to me."

Instead of the nonsense that went on afterwards.

as i said if this is true
for me this a big point
and i think if he has read this and it is incorrect
then publicaly say so
for me this is a really big issue
as liverpool means more to me than money and our history and players who have played for us the same.
take now
Gerrard could be earning a fortune else wear. Rumours a while ago linked him with Chelsea being a money grabber. Burning shirts etc.
is this not the same with a lesser player

I think the key to that is the line about Liverpool meaning more to YOU than money.

As I said, it's different to us - I'd play for us for free frankly - but it's not the same for a random Italian fullback I suspect.
