There is something wrong when Rafa can't get the team fired up by the prospect of us moving up to 5th.

If we would have won 2-0 we would be 3rd mate.

Being 3rd place in this league wouldnt tell the whole story.  Infact it would just be paper over the cracks.  I think Gordon Strachan was right when he said the English media give the premiership a pat on the back too much and the league just isnt as good as people think.  He said his celtic side could finish top 6 and his right.

I don't think it would paper over the cracks we would still be way behind the top two. I just think that game last night was an oppotunity to get some fight back into the team. If we were in 3rd this morning it still wouldn't be great of course not but it would at least give the team some confidence.

I don't think it would paper over the cracks we would still be way behind the top two. I just think that game last night was an oppotunity to get some fight back into the team. If we were in 3rd this morning it still wouldn't be great of course not but it would at least give the team some confidence.

That is true. To be honest I dont know whats up.  Surely whatever we do on matchday follows what happens in training. The lack of ideas is frightning.  A goalkeeper playing against Liverpool should have to work his azz off to come away with a clean sheet.  However at the moment it seems opposing keepers dont get tested that much.

It is a poor league this year. Man utd and Chelsea look good but the other teams, including Liverpool are fairly rubbish.

Mate, with due respect, the point that I've been trying to get across in other posts is that I'm getting concerned that if the fans are no longer shocked at poor results that we, as a team, come up with.... then can you imagine what's going on in the dressing room and in the players' heads?

As said before, winning is a habit.... so is losing.... have things gotten so bad, that we are no longer shocked and are willing to accept/excuse such a poor performance?

This was against Portsmouth at home for crying out loud... no matter how many players are out injured, we essentially still had 80% of the players who are normally in the running for a starting line-up. Are we not strong enough to beat Portsmouth with the tens of millions of quid worth of talent in red on the field yesterday??

I'm sorry mate, but that can't be accepted by me.... Not when Redknapp frankly says that he thought that his boys had a good chance of getting something from Anfield.... He should be trembling at the thought of playing us at home! .... not quietly confident... It wasn't just bravado either... he looked like he really meant it.

I've waited till the aftermath before posting as I didn't want my dissapointment to colour my post.... BUT...

Something needs to be done to rectify the dire performances that we've been showing all season in the league... LFC cannot be treated as the most likely beatable top 4 calibre team in the premiership...

If the Premiership is so poor compared with the rest of Europe then why is every team through already in the Uefa cup and all will go through in the champions league to the next stage.
Last season Arsenal and Boro both went through to the finals of each European competition and the year before we went all of the way.
The spanish league is the strongest at the moment, but closely followed by our Premiership.

In Spain 3rd is 3 from top and 21 from bottom.  With 5th being just eight from top.

In Italy 3rd is 6 from top and 26 from bottom.

In Germany 3rd is 2 points of top and 18 from bottom.  6th place is only 9 from top. 

If the Prem is so strong why do we have a two horse race already.  How can 2 teams be so far ahead in December?

As for your claims on Europe.  So the English sides are thorough in the mighty UEFA Cup. Great.  Shame 3rd and 4th in Italy which is Palermo and Livorno see the tournament as a distraction and drop there 1st team players for UEFA cup games.

Will all the English sides go through in the CL?  The way Arsenal are playing I wouldnt be so sure.

It was an amazing achievement.  The Porto side wasnt full of world known players but they were v good technically and the fact they lost most of those players tells u how good they were. 

Can we win it this year?  Its possible but there are so many good sides it will be very difficult.  Real, Barcelona, Roma, Inter, Lyon, Chelsea.  If we get Real, Barca or Roma in next round I will be very worried.

I havent studied the other leagues as only the spanish and ours interest me.
Ours pisses all over serie a and the bundesliga despite your amazing stats about how close 3rd is in points to top, not really sure about the relevance...the only thing i think about when i want to see how we compare with the other leagues is our record against them. And behind the spanish league we are by far best.

Celtic are not as good as spurs and i am certain that if they played in our league, they would be decent at home, but sh!te away, mid table run off the mill side.

Serie A is better than the prem.  Tactically, technically and plenty goals to. 

Put it this way if I had a choice out of watching 2 EPL middle table sides or two Italian mid table sides I would choose the italian game just as technially it would be better.  Oh and the English is nowhere near as strong as spain.  Spain has 5 genuine title contenders. 

I dont see how anyone can not agree that the Prem this season is weak. 

I aint the biggest fan of strachan but he got celtic to the last 16 of the CL.  Even O Neil failed to do that.

Oh and u say Celtic would be good at home, and rubbish away. Not to different to us then is it.
