Doom and gloom - Maybe not ?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

The table doesnt lie.  We are were are as we deserve to be their.  One scappy win v a poor Man City side does not suddenly make us in the race for the title.  Man Utd and chelsea will drop some points but we will as well.  Our performances have to improve greatly.

I am sure we will take 3 points at them sort of places and climb the league quickly.

Lets hope so Ace but its never that simple with liverpool is it?
You would expect us to pick up 6 points in them 2 games but we could get beat or draw in either of them or both.
Liverpool have seasons where they are very Jeckyl and Hyde I dont know the reason, I dont even think the manager does either, we have a terrible record down sarf but its imperitive we have got to start getting results away from home.
Being unbeaten at home is great an all that but it leaves you feeling very empty and hurt when they are not up to it away from home.
The pace that that game was played at yesterday at Old Tw@tford we dont play like that I think we are going to have to start we are far to defensive away from Anfield and Rafa sets his tactics to whom ever we are playing.
We just have to play our best system and not change it for anyone.
We are so predictable away its unreal at home we are not.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

So after a third of the season have united had as difficult fixtures as us ?
Have Chelsea ?

Both will be no.

The table might not lie, we are were we are based on losing 5 already, which is disappointing. But we have them games out of the way...the other contenders have still to play them, and all of them have to come to Anfield.
Chelsea have already lost this season at Boro and Spurs places were they dont usually lose.
The top sides will drop plenty more points and our fixtures are now alot more straight forward.
Lets see where we are once we have played some of the weaker sides and judge things then.

by the way I AM NOT SAYING THAT WE ARE CONTENDERS TO WIN THE TITLE. I am just saying look at the bigger picture and see where we are once we have all played the same games.

and to allow their star  player ample time to recover from his exertions ?  in Germany.... it aint over til the fat lady sings (funny how Rooney springs to mind there..) and as yet, she's only just come from the bar, G&T in hand. Sat down on her sizeable ar5e and lit her first cig yet.....

no Ace as much as id love to buy into the theory, it simply isnt plausible.

Good post, but I still don't feel that great..

Yes, it is possible that we may move up to 4th, which kinda makes our season not look so bad.. but, and its a big but we will still be 14 points away from the top of the table and we will only have played 15 games.

What did Shanks once say... First is First, second is nowhere.. what does that make 4th??

your saying that bolton  lose at home,to chelsea, not gonna happen,i think they could probably beat chelsea or even draw

Your cant ssay it still doesnt look gloom cos,we are expected to be at least only 3,4 points off the points now, rememeber at the start of the season every1 said that it will be cheslea or liverpool, its not good enough at at the end of this season again we will all be saying ,what if ,but if,but the fact is that we havnt  been consistent

When Shankly was around yes, but football has changed.

At the moment fourth is extremely important as it means more funds to continue the building process.

No one ever says that we accept fourth or are happy with fourth, but its what we must ensure that we get.

If you go out on the ale, and your in a club and all the fit birds get picked up, your beer goglles mean that you eventually take a fat bird home. You DO NOT go home on yer own. If its a choice between getting laid or a five knuckle shuffle, its fat birds all the way.

Check the date, then check the league table and re-asses the priorities.

We aim to get into 4th, then 3rd, then we take stock again and look at the possobilities.

Leon, if your happy with 4th thats fine.. but I have watched Liverpool lift plenty of league titles.  Thats what I want to see again.

I agree it is important due to the Champions league qualification/money but really, deep down you know its pretty poor.  I wouldn't mind being in 4th position if we where only 6 or 7 points off the leaders, coz you know then the diference between you and them is not that great.  But for me, to be sitting 14 points behind the mancs, well it just makes me sick!  What makes it worse is they deserve to be 14 points ahead of us.

Leonmc0708 wrote:Just perusing the Premiership table and the fixtures for this week, and had a bit of a notion.

Let me explain, here is the table as of right now:

                      P GD PTS
1 Man Utd            14 23 35
2 Chelsea             14 16 32
3 Bolton               14 2 24
4 Portsmouth        14 7 23
5 Aston Villa         14 6 23
6 Arsenal             13 11 22
7 Reading            14 -2 22
8 Everton            14 6 21
9 Liverpool           14 0 21
10 Tottenham      14 -3 19
11 Wigan             13 1 18
12 Fulham           14 -6 17
13 M'broo            14 -6 16
14 Man City         14 -6 16
15 West Ham       14 -6 14
16 Blackburn        13 -6 13
17 Newcastle       14 -6 13
18 Sheff Utd        14 -11 10
19 Watford          13 -9 9
20 Charlton          14 -11 9

And the fixtures for this week are as follows:

Tuesday, 28 November 2006

Watford v Sheff Utd,        20:00

Wednesday, 29 November 2006

Aston Villa v Man City,      19:45
Bolton v Chelsea,             20:00
Fulham v Arsenal,             19:45
Liverpool v Portsmouth,     20:00
Man Utd v Everton           20:00

Assuming a draw at Vicarage Road (it means little in the scheme of this idea anyway) a draw for city at Villa Park, Chelsea to beat Bolton by 1 clear goal, a win for Arsenal. a victory by just one clear goal for us and an inevitable win for United at home to the blue sh.ite and the table will look like this:

                      P GD PTS
1 Man Utd            15 25 38
2 Chelsea             15 17 35
3 Arsenal             14 13 25
4 Liverpool           14 0 24
5 Bolton               15 1 24
6 Aston Villa         15 6 24
7 Portsmouth        14 7 23
8 Reading            14 -2 22
9 Everton            15 4 21
10 Tottenham      14 -3 19
11 Wigan             13 1 18
12 Man City         15 -6 17
13 Fulham           14 -6 17
14 M'broo            14 -6 16
15 West Ham       14 -6 14
16 Blackburn        13 -6 13
17 Newcastle       14 -6 13
18 Sheff Utd        15 -11 11
19 Watford          14 -9 10
20 Charlton          14 -11 9

A bit of a familiar look to the top, and not the doom and gloom that many pundits, journalists and some supporters would have you beleive.

The only fly in the ointment to the theory may be Villa beating City, but to be fair of the two (who have been to Anfield) this season, I would rather play Villa again myself like. Arsenals away jitters (people in glass houses I know) might even paint a better picture, and leave us in third if they lose, or closer if they only santch a draw at Craven Cottage.

I know there are a few if's and buts, but most important is that we win.

In fact, I was in with David Johnson before the game on Saturday in the Centenary Champions lounge, and he was of the thinking that if we win all our home games, and dont lose away from now until we play Chelsea at Anfield (fixtures below) and we might just have a little bit more to play for in that game than some people would have us think.

29 Nov, 2006 Portsmouth Barclays Premiership H 20:00
02 Dec, 2006 Wigan Athletic Barclays Premiership A 15:00
09 Dec, 2006 Fulham Barclays Premiership H 15:00
16 Dec, 2006 Charlton Athletic Barclays Premiership A 12:45
19 Dec, 2006 Arsenal Carling Cup H 19:45
23 Dec, 2006 Watford Barclays Premiership H 15:00
26 Dec, 2006 Blackburn Rovers Barclays Premiership A 15:00
30 Dec, 2006 Tottenham Hotspur Barclays Premiership A 15:00
01 Jan, 2007 Bolton Wanderers Barclays Premiership H
13 Jan, 2007 Watford Barclays Premiership A 12:45

Again, in terms of the homes, they are all there for winning, Bolton may give us a game, but hopefully we can overcome their braun with a bit more brains, and no dodgy free kicks from the liner's ! Travelling to Tottenham looks the hardest game, but we just need to make sure we pick up at least a point. Also Charlton is the only game from last season we need to overturn, and its a different story for them, especially as Scott cant play for them against us under the terms of his loan deal.

Your thoughts people ?

Good post Leon.....

Definitely a "glass is half full" post if you know what I mean. Though I've been one of the doom and gloom crowd, that still doesn't mean that I'd rather be right than wrong....

Here's to hoping that we go on a run now that the fixture list is looking a lot better for us... Couldn't be @rsed bout how the rest of the crowd above us do right now though. Just want us to win the next 5 matches... something that we SHOULD be able to do.... The table will fix itself once we do.....

C'mon you reds!
