1) Does all this analisation make players better!!

2)Do you think that this scientific approach is the way to glory?

3)Or like me do you think that it hinders the thing we left at the door when playing Everton!PASSION!!!

I think Rafa is more than a scientific. FFS, he uses socks that put Football Maniac on them :D .

I think the passion is a must in the football and this passion has to be on the pitch (players) and the crowd. To make the footie decissions you must use your brain, just your brain.

Passion is handy just to talk to the players and to talk to the crowd. I don't know how Rafa is inside the dressroom, but we might be perfectly surprised that he isn't the calm person we use to see. There's a rule in the good managers, all the shouting / slating inside the dressroom, nothing in the press.

As for the crowd, LFC fans seem to like his calm approach. I think LFC fans liked him before the CL major title already, and it wasn't easy to win the favour of a crowd that was tired of the Houllier experience.

But back to the question, Does intelligence override passion? No. Rafa knows doing that but not all clever coaches know to do that.

I can think of a clear example: John Toshack. Where as he's a clever guy and know a lot of footy, he really left his passion take control of him when he was angry, or too happy. I remember he subbed a player in min 55, the player didn't do what he was supposed to and he put him on the bench again in minute 75. This kind of decission only happens when your passion is too high, and I think that you should be more brainy to take that decissions, and wait to go down to the dressroom to slate the player.

He was also famous in Spain, for awaking the RM players after an European defeat at 4am, go back to Madrid and put a training session at 10 am. Although it might be a good idea for those lazy basts, I think a coach should always control his rage and not taking decissions like that, because you want armony in the dressroom after all, and managing a dressroom of 22 players that all want to play is difficult.

I think foreign managers show their passion differently to what we are accustomed to. We are used to the Shankly style wear your heart on our sleeve type passion.Foreign managers have the same passion but dont seem to feel the same need to display it. Wenger for example gives the impression of being a cold fish but he threw his soup/pizza over Fergie. Rafa in some games looks like hes in total control of himself ie. Istanbul, at others he looks like he could tear someones head off!
Moaninho lounges there as if he is hardly interested in the game until its won and then leaps up chasing across the field trying to be first to kiss Fat Frank.
Different strokes for different folks. I think Rafa gives the impression that he is in control of the situation when inside he must be screaming with excitement or anger. Whether his passion ever reveals itself in the dressing room I have no idea.

You need a balance.  Without passion, you won't have success, and if you do, it will be limited.  But without "science", you'll get caught ball watching and chasing leading to losses.  If I had to choose though, I'd take passion, because if you want it enough, you'll find a way to change things to win.
