Depending on who we sign although I don't think we'll win the league (nxt season) I've got a funny feeling that we might go all the way to the CL final . :D

I don't think we have a hope in hell of winning the league next season. We did, after all, finish 30 points behind Arsenal last year!

However, I think the following is significant:

1. Arsenal won't be as dominant next season. They might still win the league, but I expect a few early defeats next autumn to bring them back down to earth.

2. Chelsea could be a real force next year if Mourinho is given a bit of independence.

3. Alternatively, Chelsea could be a relative disaster next season if Abramovich and Mourinho fall out, causing Mourinho to resign in the early spring, and Chelsea limp home in 4th place. However, I don't think that will happen and I think Abramovich is placing a lot of trust in Mourinho.

4. Its a make or break season for Man UTD. They will probably make a lot of changes in the close season, and 2004/05 could be the last year we see all the older generation of the Nevilles, Butt, Keane, Scholes and Giggs in the same side. Scholes and the Nevilles will probably be there for years to come, but next season could be the last throw of the dice fot the likes of Keane and Giggs. If the new signings don't gel Man UTD could slide down to our level very quickly.  :D

Considering we will have a new manager I would be happy with the following:

1. Get through the qualification leg of the CL and be competive in the Group Stage.

2. A minimum of 4th place in the league provided we don't finish 15 points off 3rd place and 30 off the winners. If we finish 4th we should be at most 2 or 3 points away from 3rd place and no more than 10-12 points off the winners.

3. A decent cup run in either of the domestic cups (rather than some ****** early elemination at Anfield to some team of journey men from Division One).

4. General overall improvement which leads people to believe that this time 12 months we can all sit down after the season and say "At last we are going places".

5. Gerrard and Owen decide to commit to Liverpool: Owen by signing a new contract and Gerrard stating his desire to honour his long term contract.

The above isn't perfect and not really satisfactory but is realistic given that we will have a new manager.

We are going to start the season with a new mgr and hopefully 3 class signings .The rest of the team (those that count) will be fired up to wipe out the disappointment of last season and show the new mgr their worth. We also start level on points with the "big 3". I expect us to challenge them to the end . I also believe CL nights at Anfield are going to be "massive and mad" and don't be suprised when you find yourself trying to get tickets to see us in the final against AC Milan.
I had a dream :D :D :D

in my opinion we are in the big three. what have chelsea ever won? their open wallet doesn't make them a bigger club than us. they're a club with absolutely no class and no history, who talk as if they own the freekin world and have always been the best team since sliced bread.

I generally find the following questions shut them up pronto whenever they claim to replace the Pool in the Big 3,feel free to use any of them:

1.Which club was Stamford Bridge actually built for in 1905? (Fulham)

2.How often have they played in the European Cup?(that one you had to win the league to qualify for)(0)

3.Name all the clubs that have won the league more recently than Chelsea (8 Premiership and 6 other sides) which puts them at best 15th in league pecking order.

4.How often have Chelsea finished 1st or 2nd in the last 49 years?(Once this season, less than for example a team like Ipswich amongst many others, eg Watford QPR Saints have all finished 2nd once and had to fight their way through 4 divisions unlike Chelsea)

5. What was a dairy farmer doing when he said 'As my fans behave like animals I'll treat them like animals'(Ken Bates switching on his electrified fence around the Shed)

6. Why has a chairman with unlimited money increased season ticket prices at the Bridge and eliminated free cup vouchers too this season?

rant over

I put big 3 in inverted coma's , I should have said " the so called big three ".
Like it or not they are regarded as being likely to finish above us by all but us Red supporters.

Glad to hear it, most people I have spoken too expect Arsenal and Chelsea fighting for 1st and 2nd with us and Manure scrappin' for 3rd and 4th. All do expect the race to be a lot closer than last seasons. :)

Reducing the points gap would be a massive achievement. And if where in contention towards the end game that would be quite good too.

Not a snow balls chance in hell.  A good cup run and perhaps even fourth place.  The new manager will pateince and particularily if he's foreign he'll need time.  Its not nice to pick players and single them out individually but I think he'll have to let at least a dozen go.  That means at least 6 or 7 in.  that will take time.  There must be a transitional time.  perhaps 3 in and 3 out.  Heskey has already left, Hamman wants to go back to Germany and I think Dudek is also saying he thinks his days are numbered.

Hello

the main factors for us competing for the league have already been covered in some posts.
I beleive Arsenal will not lose many games in a season, so in order for us to be in a challenging position, then we cant afford to lose many either!
That of course means at least 4/5 what I would call "top" players. Benitez, may be able to bring 3 players with him from Valencia, but who knows how they will gel into the team and the premiership.
Chelsea are not assured of winning a thing though, and i hope they fall flat on thier faces and win sod all.
considering all this money they've got, they think they can buy and win everything in sight, but apart from the FA cup, they have won p*** all !
Man Utd, will probably strenghthen, but we just need to be more consistent, and not lose any home games to keep pace with them.

If we start playing Biscan up front and bring in Robbie Savage we might have a chance!

(JOKE!)
