Do we need to buy another striker?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

With the transfer window looming, and our first priority being a RM and a quality centre half, our defence is looking pretty solid, finally we have a good goalie, and probably the best midfield in the prem, with bags of talent to choose from.
Liverpool have always had great strikers, but do we now have a problem that we dont have an out an out goal scorer?
Crouch has done everything but score, but is 16 games without a goal a worry? He played excellent the other night, and Morientes showed glimpses of what a class act he is.

I dont think Cisse is in Rafa's long term plans TBH as he doesnt work hard for the team, he has scored 16 goals this season for club and country an excellent record but I think he may return to France in the not so distant future.
But and its a BIG but he cannot be sold before we buy a replacement.

I also think Pongolle and Mellor may be on there way out also.
Pongolle was really coming into form before he got that injury and seemed like he could finally break into the first team, but I dont know whats happened this last few weeks. And with the arrival of the two right sided midfielders on there way to Liverpool plus we have Garcia, so down the wing he is going to find it difficult to get back into the team, but he is a striker and should be utilised as one. Potter got on the bench before him against Betis even though it was a cameo appearance, Pongolle did score against Betis in the away tie. Strange one.

From Rafa singing his praises to him not even getting a wiff of his name on the team sheet be it a start or on the bench, he is 5 in the pecking order behind, Crouch, Morientes, Cisse, Garcia.

Also Mellor is about 2 stone over weight and I just cannot see him getting back into the squad,  its a shame like but I dont think he will ever become a Liverpool legend, we still need him for the reserves but even that department is getting a major overhaul, with a lot of new faces being brought in for the future.

What does everyone think? Is everyone happy with the strikers/forwards we have now or do you think we need to buy an out and out goal scorer. Or once these 2 RM arrive be it Gonzales/Simao or Pienaar.
And our forwards get the right service from the wings our strikers will start scoring bagfulls.
Whats everyones opinions on this?

If Crouch and Morientes don't start finding the net before the window opens I'd say Rafa has to deffo bring in another striker .

I still think Kuyt was a good shout .

(btw watching him the other night he didn't half look like Robbie Fowler  :D )

Yes I think it would be suicidal if we let Kuijt go to Chelsea, manure or Spurs, he is a white version of Momo Sissoko his engine never runs out of gas, he is a real team player, hes got bandy legs  :D
He would be my ideal Cisse replacement he's young great to watch can play in a variety of positions.
Ive been harping on about getting him for over a year now and I think we should pay the mooted 10-12 million price tag for him.
Once Holland play in the WC 2006 his value will more than double.
Also the Pienaar deal maybe on hold due to Ajax getting through to the last 16 of the CL.

Could be good.... the 2nd coming!!
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

well i would take nihat over kuyt with no hesitation .. I saw him play for holland many times but for sure he isnt worthed 12 m .. but cggy i'm with u in this we need a polific goalscorer coz honnestly the hard work made by the midfield players isnt showing because of our strikers form currently ( betis game was a obvious proof for that )
thanx

Don't know Nihat ,but reading the thread about him it sounds as though he could be very useful to us ,(scores goals ,versatile and quicker than Owen  :) . ) I'm sure Rafa knows all about him .
