Djimi traore...

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Not wanting to get carried away.

But his recent improvement hasn't suprised me at all and we may already have Hyypia's long term replacement. Ok thats a big ask, but the lad clearly has alot of outstanding qualities and he's starting to improve with every game and at 23/24 years of age he still has a few years yet before he reaches his peak.

I've always said i could see why Houllier signed him but i was never confident of him improving to a high standard. Now he's starting to look the player Gerard hoped he'd become under him. In fairness, Djimi played a couple of good games last season aswell and seems to be improving at a good rate.

We all know he's very pacey and is superb in the slide tackle. He also wins alot of headers and has good composure when under pressure at the back. His general athletisism is superb.

His touch isn't the best and is a bit heavy at times. He also doesn't read the game brilliantly. But i'm sure this will come over the next year with Rafa in charge. He's already become more patient in his defending and less prone to commiting to tackles he won't win. If he can improve on his ability to head a ball, read the game and his touch then again we may have a superb player on our hands.

Theres alot of Area's to improve on, similar to Baros, but i feel with Djimi he already has some attributes that are top class.

agree with some of that, but i think traores shortcomings with his touch and passing are to much for him to ever be a first team regular at centre back, i mean he just makes me feel nervous every time he's on the ball, it just seems like he always has mistake waiting to happen, but who knows he's improving but it will take a lot of work to improve his first touch and passing

Maybe...

Lets face it though, if he could get to even Sol Campbells level it'd be a bit of an improvement.

true didnt think of that, but if you think about campbell is surrounded by players who are excellent passers of the ball so he can just do the dirty work and pass it on, we dont have this luxury at liverpool at the moment thats why i think traore a bit of a dangerous choice right now but decent back up, especially if he continues his recent improvement

I once read a quote on Djimi sayin he mixes 89 good minutes of football with 1 minute of madness and if he could just get rid of this moment of madness he would be a quality player and it couldnt be more true, the last 3 games hes played he hasnt put a foot wrong, he had all the potential when houllier was there but Rafa seems to be able to bring it out in players.
Chopper:Look, you're not still angry at me about the leg, are you?
Neville Bartos : Nah, forget about it.
Chopper : Because I don't know if you remember, Neville, but I had that bloody shotgun pointed at your head. I reconsidered and dropped it down to your kneecap. Remember?

Looking good Djimi.
One of my Rangers pals, was telling me that Ranges were offered a choice of either Vignal or Traore, but the took Vignal as a safer option.

How is he doing at rangers? Is he playing regular?
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Troare definitely has improved this year and he has gone from being a piece of deadwood (sorry Djimi) to an increasingly valuable squad member.

i think its more than his movement, his total commitment has looked a lot better. Take the millwall game, he looked like he was controlling the entire squad for parts. im very happy for him and just hope he continues to improove

To me, Djimi's biggest problem was lack of experience, lack of concentration and poor reading of the game: all of these are mental things.

I think he's a good athlete and he has always been strong in the air and in the tackle. I never thought his touch was that bad: it struck me as being more a lack of concentration rather than a lack of touch that caused Djimi to miscontrol balls at times.

His mental discipline is certainly there for all to see. In 2002/03 he played a very silly game against Celtic, needlessly fouling John Hartson a number of times giving Celtic a few free kicks: one of which they scored. This season he seems far more disciplined.

I think your getting a bit excited.

Sol Campbell is one of the best centre backs in the world.

Get to even Sol Campbells level ?? Oh yeah, because Sol Campbell, would never get into our first team would he?? No, because we have (fanfare please).............Djimi Traore, a guy we were prepared to offload to the bluenoses for a then 'bite their arm off' fee of £1.5 million ....................Completey Ridiculous comment me thinks
