Djimi traore - Good enough long term?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby stmichael » Wed Feb 02, 2005 2:00 pm

i've no doubt that this guy has been the discussion of many a debate on here but to be honest i still can't make my mind up about the guy. one week he has a very good game and the next he looks absolutely dreadful.

let me point out first of all that he is a CENTRE HALF, not a fullback. although he might fill in at left back now and again, he hasn't got the necessary skills to play there. everytime he goes forward he seems to think he's zinedine zidane and tries some fancy flick.

what i will say is at least he's got some pace, which is something our back four is generally lacking. he's also a superb tackler (which often bails him out of trouble). last nights last ditch intervention on murphy was superb as was his last ditch tackle against watford at anfield.

it's ok saying that he's improved tenfold this season but the question has to be this:

would he get in any of the top 3's teams in a million years?

with a full squad, is he good enough to be playing consistently for us if we want to move forward?

thoughts please? ???

Simply not good enough.. one of the main strengths of any player, especially defenders, is consistency..  Poor Jimmy just hasn't got what it takes.
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

I agree with most of what you said except:

1.) i think traore's best position is full back. he cant deal with the responsibility of playing at cedtre half and so he is prone to f*ck ups when he does play there. At full back there is not as much pressure on him and he does quite well in defence.

                             AND

We can't sell him just cos he cant get into any of the top 3 teams. Only a few liverpool players would(imo gerrard, carra, alonso...that's about it)

I think hes worth keeping :)
Steve Gerrard Gerrard,
He'll pass the ball 40 yards,
He's quick and he's f*cking hard,
Steve Gerrard Gerrard.

We are lack of first team's players, mainly in defense. Traore has been decent recently and his salary is relatively low. So, keep 'em!

No i dont think we should keep him long term!
Consistency gives confidence and unfortunately he has his moments and this won't lead to our back 4 being as good as it can!
I'm sure he will fill in and has been quite valuble this year as cover for the left side but i would like to see a new left back in the summer!
I agree there is too much responsiblity in the centre for him!

anyone who can do the Zidane turn and follow it up with a back heel goal under pressure in a big cup game must be worth £20m

Anyone here good with a magic wand? We'll just turn him into Thuram and if anyone here really does do magic for a living, we'll turn Cheyrou into Zidane.

He,ll never live that own goal down will he .
I think he,s gaining confidence now and i,d keep him in the team . Theres others i,d rather see go before him.

Traore would be a decent player at centre half for Man City or Birmingham, but he's not anywhere near top 3 quality.

I think he's worth keeping at this moment at least until decent players are available to replace him. But i agree he's not one deserving position among the main rafalution troops for the glory challanges.

I used to think he was a decent squad player to have on the bench but since Rafa's taken the reigns I'm not so sure. The reason I say that is twofold:-

Firstly, of all our players who could be classed as "ok" rather than "good" he is the only regular player who has hasn't improved under Rafa's stewardship. For me he is no better than he was 1 or 2 seasons ago unlike Finnan, Biscan, Baros etc

Secondly my optimism has risen massively about our future and subconsciously I think my expectations have also risen to the point where "ok" is no longer good enough, even for a bench-warmer

So no, I don't think Djimi has a future at LFC and I reckon he will be sold in the summer

He has been on the periphery of the first team for several seasons. He is not good enough for premier league football week in week out.

And not two seasons ago i was asking myself the same thing about Jamie Carragher look at him now.I think Djimi will come into his own next year and i think him and JC will be the center of our defence as soon as we get a decent left back who can tackle

Some weeks he looks fast, some weeks he looks strong. Some weeks he'll advance on goal, and others weeks he'll hang back too much. I can't figure him out. I think he has ability, but I need to see some consistant performances. If he still lacks consistancy at the end of this season, he should leave.
